Im a multimedia design student, and I’m doing a bit of research on a possibily for a final project…this is could take the form of an exploratory flash website, or possibly some kind of 3d interactive experience, maybe dvd based, or maybe even a game. It has to exist for a reason, and my reasons are (currently)-
to raise awareness about lucid dreaming, and that essentially, people spend a lot of their lives unconscious, which is pretty much a waste of time
to educate people on the topic
to actually simulate situations (reality checks, false awakening etc) which will hopefully permeate the mind in some way, and therefore increase the possilbility of having a lucid dream
Anyway I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions, I’m open to doing anything as this project is just beginning, I could even propose some kind of physical installation or device. There is only one requirement, that it is a highly visual experience. Any suggestions, ideas, criticisms would be much appreciated!
Well, in terms of highly visual experience, whenever someone thinks about a ‘radical possibility’, it is usually accompanied by ‘psychedelic imagery’ due to it’s insane complexity and representation.
I’d be capturing specifically non-stereotyped psychdelic imagery. Avoid fractals or hippies or smilies, heh. But i think you’ll understand what i mean. Complex imagery that people will think ‘wow, i can’t comprehend that, but i bet i could if i was in it’.
You want to suggest to people what thier possibilities are. Pictures of a man with arms outstretched standing in space, looking at the world or something.
People like to feel in control, so work on that. Also, you can use some positive manipulation by using autosuggestions. I suggest you read some documentation on ‘Neuro Linguistic Programming’. It is essentially a series of trends you can follow, that will allow you to externally autosuggest things to people. It’s exactly what salesman are trained to use. My first, and only proper LD was suggested to me and i didnt even know it, until my reality folded up and i was like “you sneaky so and so!”. I now constantly ask my friends successively three times in a row, what the time is. They’re catching on.
Also, make the crowd feel welcome. Be on the same level as them. Crack suitable jokes and talk about your personal experiences, as so people in the audience can relate, and don’t see you as some guru/master.
Thanks, some really interesting points there, and dont worry, I wasn’t going to go down the hippy route (unicorns and waterfalls perhaps?;p )
I’ll definitely look into the Neuro Linguistic programming as well, that sounds like a good bit of meaty research! Hopefully when it’s more in progress ill post back here with some stills.
