So as you can see from my LD count I’ve had quite a bit of lucid dreams in my life. The majority of them came from two years ago, and I almost never had problems regarding dream length with them. These days though, my lucid dreams have started to be really short. For instance, I had a lucid dream last night and after about ten minutes (subjective dream time) the dream just faded away and I couldn’t do anything about it. That’s what’s been happening nowadays, the dream is really vivid and fun for about ten minutes and then poof! It just fades away without warning. I tried focusing on taking things slow in the dream and not just running off like I usually do, it worked a tiny bit but still, it was just a short dream! Why is this happening and what are ways to stay in the dream longer?
When you feel the dream fading; spin yourself in a circle, rub your hands together, and press your tongue into the back of the roof of your mouth.
ARRRRG, had 2 lucid dreams this morning and both were cut short >.< guess I’ll keep trying those techniques even if they didn’t work the first time
If your dream fade is caused by external stimuli such as light or sound then a dream spin like I outlined above will be less effective. You mention that the dreams occur in the morning. It’s very likely that too much light is entering your room. You may want to try sleeping with a mask to see if that helps. Sometimes I sleep with a mask and earplugs in. If you use both a mask and earplugs along with ~200mg of vitamin b6 before going to bed it can result in extremely vivid dreams. But you should not take B6 in this quantity every day.
I always keep my shades shut, and my roommate keeps them shut too because he knows I like it dark. They’re always closed when I wake up.
Have you become more aware and understand what lucid dreams are now than you did back then? Could it be possible that understanding it more, can cause you to be more excited about them than you used to be? If so, it is likely that that excitement is having an impact on your stability.
maybe, but I’m always relatively calm during my lucid dreams. I’ll definitely give it a try, calming down. I’ll focus on keeping myself there, and in the dream.
I have been having the exact same problem for the past year and a half. I know it is incredibly frustrating! Like you, being calm, knowing I am dreaming, but for some reason the dream always fades, as if my brain doesn’t want me to have an LD!
Have you been under any kind of stress recently? Because that’s what I have associated mine with.
I’ve been dealing with clinical depression for the last 2 years
