Lucid Powers

Hello everyone,

I’m sure almost everyone that has had (and does have) lucid dreams, has mastered their own brand of special (realistically impossible) brand of powers. Wether this be throwing fire, throwing people off the planet or even flying, i’m sure everyone likes to do the impossible in their dreams.

I was wondering, what (in people’s opinions) are the best of these powers?

By ‘the best’ I mean the most useful, for example:

Teleporting is probably a lot more efficient in getting to places than running at the speed of sound, but many people would still count the power of running at an unbelievable speed the better of the two, I certainly believe it sounds more fun that just appearing somewhere, but less efficient.

So which of these powers do you think are the most useful and what makes them more useful in a given situation?

flying isnt really efficient but its fun to see the dreamscape and see DC being very surprised

Well first of all it’s a dream. I don’t see why things should be labeled as more or less effective. Experiencing things that are not possible in physical reality is awesome and I never care about efficiency of the specific “power”.

I love flying and I do it in almost every LD. It’s not efficient of course as it’s teleporting but like you said there is so much to miss when you teleporting although sometimes you can easily end up somewhere where you didn’t planned to end up and still you dream can become interesting.

Use your powers and explore them. Don’t think about efficiency. Just do things…

Actually, I have this idea that it depends on the dreamer’s personality. Somebody who feels under attack a lot both waking and subconsciously, might find the “rewinder” ability useful. Somebody who gets too much unwanted attention, might enjoy being invisible or shapeshifting into disguise. A strategist might like to freeze time, an action fan might have an explosive lightsaber. With dream items that I can create, it was an airship-- was, back when my life situation was so stable that I really wanted freedom and flight. Now that I kind of couch surf, I incubate castles.

Flight is my favorite middle ground with teleportation and speed-running. Flying carpets are more stable and scenic, but if I’m engaging in aerial combat then a broomstick has both more speed and control. (Personally.)

I think flying is probably the most important power for any LDer. I couldn’t really imagine not being able to move around freely.

If you ask me what power I like though, it’s hard to say. When Im Lucid it all comes down to ‘what sounds fun’.

One thing about my dreams, is that I always have the ability to create forcefields. My character when I’m not lucid uses this ability often. I don’t actually use it when LD because I havn’t really had a reason to, and it’s not really that sparkly to me.

I’ve saved a lot of people and myself using this ability. My most spactacular display was when there was a heavy meteor shower, and I focused enough to create a barrier large enough to protect most of the city.
There’s something about it that I feel connected to. Whenever something hits the field, I feel it, as though it’s a part of me, and I have to push back. It’s never difficult to block anything, but I do feel it.

It’s strange. I have no difficulty, resistance, or maintanence to flying. There doesn’t seem to be any control to me, I just move as I want however I want.

For me it isn’t about the efficiency, but more about the experience.

I have some powers that I find really useful.

  1. Summoning or phasing things in. I hold out my hand and I imagine something slowly appearing in my hand. I imagine it’s weight on my hand, and I feel it when I hold it. Usually it works, but even if it doesn’t work I pretend like it did causing it to appear later, or have the same effect as if it were there. Usually these objects phase in with a purple aura before becoming totally opaque.

For example I would hold my hand up to my eyes and phase in a pair of glasses, or make a pill appear between my finger and thumb. For example, if the pill doesn’t appear, I just pretend to throw it in my mouth and I’ll feel it go down my throat.

  1. Transforming into an animal. This is the coolest thing ever, feels extremely real. I did this only once, and I used a pill to help me do it.

  2. Flying. I’m not the best at flying, I can’t always get it. I hope I master it soon, feeling the momentum is the best thing ever. When it doesn’t work, it’s because my lucidity isn’t so high.

  3. Changing and molding things by concentrating. Pretty cool thing to do, if something’s in my way.

  4. Increasing vividness. This is an extremely fun thing to do. I either shout “Increase vividness!” and everything snaps into focus, and seems super realistic. It’s like a sensory overload. If I can’t talk for some reason, I can do it without shouting a command.

  5. Commanding dream characters. I can do this to some extent, and only to the stupid/hollow ones.

  6. Low G. Usually happens without me wanting to do it, but it’s always fun.

  7. “Show me something awesome!”. Surprises me every single time.

The power I love doing most is “Show me something awesome”. The useful ones are flying, phasing things in and increasing vividness. I need to keep a list of powers that I already have, and powers I want. Right now, I’m trying to rip open the dream space by thrusting my hands into the dream space and pulling a rift/portal open.
