The landscape of lucidity techniques can easily overwhelm LD newbies. I know I certainly feel overwhelmed! On all the forums you can find posts like “I tried XYZ-ILD and it worked for me first time!” (and posts saying it didn’t work).
What’s missing from these posts for all these -ILD techniques, for potential dreamers looking to choose a technique, is the LD background of the proponents of the techniques.
For example, with Pedro’s saying he gets LD 100% with his VILD technique: what was his percentage without VILD? 90%? 50%? Before VILD was he a WILDer? MILDer? I doubt it was 0% before VILD, like us beginners. So if Pedro went from 80% to 100% with VILD, that doesn’t mean that it’s a good technique to get a newbie LDer his first LD, or for a low percentage LDer to get to over 50%.
So it would be very very useful to know which techniques are the most effective for taking LD practitioners from 0% to greater than 0%, to 10%, to 20-30%, to 50%, and so on, and the correlation of success with one induction type to the success with another. Is this data available anywhere? I think it would be the subject for a very interesting and valuable study if it hasn’t been done yet.
That is a very good point! I feel like this is what makes a lot of new people annoyed and jealous. They see posts about this person finally arriving at lucidity, and they are frustrated that they have not yet got one LD. So they jump from LD tech to LD tech with no reason or rhyme.
I also think that a lot of people post these “I just found my 100% tech” and they will say something like “It worked three days in a row!!!” which I had LDs three days in a row one month when all I had were 5 LDs that month. 100% in my opinion is 5+ LDs every night for a month at least. I only know 3 non naturals to achieve this.
I would recommend MILD with visuals and a mantra at least 10 minutes before bed each night.
WBTB added to any technique that you are doing, preferably without an alarm. Practice with different times (of waking and of staying awake) to see what makes your dreams more vivid and aware. The more vivid and aware you are, the easier it is to get lucid normally.
An easy WILD tech that you can incorporate into your MILD. this is just my personal way of doing it. I think that it works better to not concentrate on WILD, but to study up on it so that when you do feel a WILD coming on, you know what to do.
Always practice recall
Always sleep consistently
Always bring new things in and take things out to see if they will work better then you are currently doing.
