I just wanted to start a wee little thread on mantra. Does anyone else here use mantra?
It is truly a great tool. The repetition of the phrases brings you back to them and away from the traps of “you” the EGO.
And the old Hindu holy songs…
“hare krishna, hare krishna, hare rama, hare rama”
The old Hindu holy songs…the sounds and rhythm resonate somewhere in hyperspace…you can feel it. The songs have been chanted with the SELF in mind for so long…the vocal patterns just dissolve the ego and put you into a state of ecstatic head bobbing and swaying…wonderful.
Mantras does sound interesting. I haven’t heard of it before or ever used it before.
Due to a couple of past issues in my life, I’m very interested in these means of, so to speak, “self control,” those for which the expression I just used is the worse one could think of, because they’re not about “playing against yourself,” “intimidating yourself” or “manipulating yourself” as much as they are about “playing with yourself,” “taming your limitations” and"making deals with yourself."
I use mantras. As I’m not afraid of my Christian background, I prefer to call them “prayers,” because I think that’s how I face them — and I’m quite sure that’s how most Western people who say they use “mantras” face them: as prayers. Could be lines, poems, instructions to myself, even symbols or talismans, as long as their point is not to make magick, but rather to symbolize something I’ll have to achieve myself: a goal, a focus.
I do this as well. Oftentimes when I feel crappy, I use them, (this is common on the buses for me) and often my body and mind responds right away, and I feel instantly better. A good way to fight off unhappiness in my opinion.
Can you tell me what you say to do this? I might want to give it a try when I feel ticked off or sad.
Well, what I say in my head is: I am loved and protected by those around me (this means anyone that you love basically). They will be with me regardless.
And I do this a bunch of times, and it makes me feel better, always. It’s basically just positive thinking. Maybe what Dan and Bruno were talking about are different things, such as ohm, but I find that this works quite well.
i use hare krishna a lot
hare krisha hare krishna
krishna krishna hare hare
hare rama hare rama
rama rama hare hare
if i am sad it makes it so its okay to feel sad because it helps to get rid of the bad thoughts from my mind.
sometimes repeat Jesus Christ
the Lords Prayer
or Om Mani Padme Hum
or Om Ah Hum (unites body mind and speech in purity)
or Aum
i sort of have one too, but its nothing about religion, let alone other people. for me a mantra is for me, from me… if i say that “people around me love me and are there for me” what happens when they let me down… like they have many times before?
i have me though.
its the simplest “just breathe”. and i do, and then feel better
