Math to increase dream awareness

In a lucid dream the other night, I decided to count the powers of 2. Normally while awake I can count it straight up to 4096 before running into trouble. However in the dream I couldn’t seem to get past 128.

It occurred to me that this could be used as a measurement of awareness. My dream self realized that I wasn’t in the same state of mind as my waking self, and tried to compensate. The result was a longer lucid dream than I was used to and a bit more progress on some of the dream powers I was trying to learn.

Nice one ;D
Left-hemisphere capabilities are indeed dumbed down in dreams, and when starting a LD it is often good practice to “wake it up”, with little exercises. Math is what i think works best, too, and I even used some to fall into a relaxation state before going to bed (mainly because it kept my left hemisphere busy).

Next time I have a LD, I’ll definitely try some, after i gain some more lucidity ^^

i hate that. keeping awareness at it’s fullest is one of the things that just drives me crazy :grrr:
i think the to me, fact that you can evaluate your level of lucidity within a dream says that you are pretty darn lucid. i’m actually really impressed that you can get all of the way up to 128. what helps me is just vocalizing the fact that i’m dreaming, maybe just taking a minute to collect myself. then again… i haven’t really had too many super fantastic dreams. :shy:
that is a very interesting thought though, i might have to try that one out
thanx!
