Mental Blocks

Hey everyone.

i’ve been trying to LD for about a year.
i’ve had about six or seven LD’s but they have been only seconds long.
i realize i’m dreaming, then the dreamscape fades away.

anyway.
i’m wondering if i’ve put up some kind of mental block that makes me think ld’s are impossible.

i’m curious as to what you guys think.

thanks.

You sound like you’re discouraged. If you think it’s not going to happen, or you’ve made it not able to happen, then it won’t. As to extending your LDs, spinning works well (I know you’ve probably heard this already, bear with me) it works even if the dreamscape is totally gone. I’ve had dreams where I am somewhere, realize I am dreaming, and the dream is immediately gone. Remembering spinning allows me to spin the body I don’t even realize I have, which makes my room materialize in front of me. This has saved 2 or 3 of my best LDs before they even started. If all else fails, chaining seems to be the new popular thing around here, give that a shot the second you can feel your real body again. Good luck whatever happens!

yep, aslong as you keep it in your head that everyone can do it, and it is very possible youll start to get better at keeping yourself within the dream. just keep practicing and KNOW you CAN do it!
goodluck!

PS: i love the Avatar! Donnie Darko is my favorite movie!

thanks guys.
spinning has never really worked for me.
but i’ll try next time i get an LD.
and i’ll check out chaining.

my fav movie too!
haha.

thanks.

Hmm. The same thing happens to me these days but I’ve had loads of longer, vivid LDs in the past and my subconscious seems to have been trained that achieving LDs is easy. Lately, I’m just not trying to have them at all. But they occur spontaneously. Try using some autosuggestion and make DJing an über priority, it’s what worked for me.

Ahhh, spinning, I forgot about that one. Brilliant!

i fill in my DJ everyday.
i have really good dream recall.
and i get hints in my dreams to get lucid.
but i don’t understand and stuff.

I have a very similar problem to you. I do get more LD’s than you, but the vast majority are incredibly short. I also have good dream recall, but I just started a dream journal. Hopefully that’ll help.

having a dream journal is a big help.
especially for dream recall.
