MILD Problems a few other questions...

Hi, this is my first post. I have always wanted a way of doing things that aren’t doable in real life, like using a holodeck in Star Trek. 'Till I found lucid dreams, I didn’t know it was possible. I’ve never had a lucid dream, well, I think I had a little one when I was younger but, anyway…

I’ve been trying both WILD and MILD and have decided to go with MILD, 'cos I’m a bit scared of WILD. There are a few things that I have trouble with in MILD though:

1 - Is it completely necessary to keep your eyes rolled up the whole time, until you go to sleep?

2 - I find that rolling my eyes up sometimes hurts my eyes.

3 - Does anyone have any advice on how to be intentful when repeating the words?

4 - Does anyone have any images that seem to work very well?

And, a question unrelated to MILD specifically:

I once read that it is possible to slow down time in a LD, so that when dreaming in the space of a few minutes real time, you could experience hours or more in your dream, in fact, this thing I was reading mentioned a man who had spent 100 years in a LD, is this possible, and how long do they normally last?

Thanks, look forward to knowing you all!

Hi AdmiralZ, welcome to the forum!

Let’s take a look at your questions.

1 and 2). You are describing part of a method called Suneye. In this method you focus on your third eye to focus your awarenes untill you reach a dream, yet this is a WILD technique and not used for MILD. Also, in the Suneye tech it isn’t even nececarry to strain your eyes into hurting, merely focussig mentally on your 3rd eye is already doing the job.

3). Try to imagine at the same time what it means to become lucid. Try to feel your excitement, imagine yourself flying off, whatever. If you lose focus after 10 or 15 minutes, just quit and go to sleep. The autosuggestion should kick in after a while automatically if succesful (chances increase dramatically if you combine this with WBTB though).

4). Why would you want images?

extra). Extending time in LD’s is controversial, many (including me) say that it is merely a combination of vague dream memories and a “movie effect” (where it skips whole parts). Time is a subjective thing anyway (time flies when you have fun, etc). But perhaps some time extention is possible, who knows.

Hi AdmiralZ! Welcome to the forum!

As Xetrov points out, it seems you’re trying a WILD method!

The MILD method consists in :

  • repeating a autosuggestion sentence before falling asleep, like “This night, I’ll realize I’m dreaming”.
  • remembering a dream you’ve had, noticing the curious things in it and imagining that they make you realize you’re dreaming.

Good luck in your holodeck quest!

Oh, ok. The site gave a different method.

You’re right. It seems it has been slightly modified… Now I understand better why you asked those questions about the eyes position.

Here is the original method:
Lucid Dreaming FAQ (MILD)

Good luck!

Ah i see. Hmm I think Q should modify that, it is not part of the MILD method as Laberge explains it. Maybe it might be useful to focus on your 3rd eye (during WILD) but I dont see the huge benefit for MILD in this (since you need to focus on your intention to LD).

but i’ll write the original MILD method too  writes on to do list

slaps forehead
you are completely right, i just used my ‘induce a LD’ technique i described on previous versions of LD4all, and slapped the name MILD on it, but it isn’t MILD :shy:
sorry for the confusion. Will be cleared up

updated.

Yeah, when I tried MILD a while back I had the same troubles a AdmiralZ. Hopefully you’ll get it, but if you find that tech doesn’t work for you (as it didn’t for me), then try another techniqwue.

For example: When I was first into lucid dreaming, I tried MILD first, didn’t work. So I moved onto WBTB, I didn’t practise it that much, but it didn’t work. So then I finally moved onto WILD, wand wadda ya know! FIRST TRY it worked!!! Wow, eh? Hahahaha

Good luck!
Hope I helped
