Hello everyone. Does anyone here sing or play an insturment? I’m just curious, because I like music a lot myself. If so, what do you play (or sing)?
I enjoy music a lot, but I’ve never taken lessons for anything. I haven’t been interested in music my whole life, but I got inspired by American Idol. when I wasw ten (lol, as corny as that sounds) but I realized the passion, the creativity, the enjoyment of music! I wasn’t too great when i started, but I would sing againt a wall or something, to hear the sound waves bounce back (since I didn’t know how to record my voice ) I got honest opinions from friends, and worked hard on what I needed to fix. NOw it’s impossible for me to go a day without singing. I’ve tried to sing about everything from country to opera, and right now, I’m into soft rock and jazzier tunes. I’m in choir, and I’m trying to learn how to read music, because that’s something I don’t know how to do.
I played clarinet in 5th grade, but I wanted to play sax. first. I was really into jazz at that time. The sax was too heavy for me to hold though lol, so I switched to clarinet. Unfortunalely, my mom passed away that summer, so I dropped outta band…I was just so stressed with going into jr. high w/o a mom…and I didn’t want another thing to worry about. I regret quitting to this day…but I’m too far behind IMO to join back in…and prolly too busy too. I’ve tried to learn a little bit of keybboard from a book, but it’s a bit difficult sometimes…I get confused on the fingering of the keys… Reading music on the keyboard, I’m not very far at all, but I memorize songs that are programmed on my keyboard. I know part of minuet, canon, fur elise ( not the left hand lol), and some other things. Mostly I just make up y own songs off the top of my head. I tried to play guitar from a book…but that turned out to be a dissaster…WAY over my head lol.
Anyway, do any of you have a passion for music? J/W
I do! I love music. I have heaps of CDs all around my room. I used to play guitar and clarinet, but I don’t anymore and I haven’t for a while. Not enough time and such these days. But I plan to get back into it at the end of the year.
NOTE: I HATE these “Idol” shows. Music is not meant to be manufactured.
Ah, well I understand how you feel. I am so tired of them now, but I got really into the first one. It’s so repeptive now…and the crappy ‘twists’ and whatnot…grrr…
I could never get guitar, but I love hearing people play guitar. I’m a sucker for slow guitar solos in songs…moves me every time . Btw, do you make up stuff on your guitar…like just start strumming and make a song? Or improvise something on your clarinet and make a song out of it? I used to do that with my clarinet, and I do that all the time with my keyboard. I thought that anyone who was into music could do that, but I figured out that not everyone could. My friend Kel, plays the flute, and she said that she could never imrovise something the way that I did…so I’m just wondering…I feel special that i can do taht lol.
When I played guitar I used to make up stuff all the time. Never wrote any of it down though.
NOTE: The problem I have with these “Idol” shows is not that they are repetitive or boring (although they are), it’s that these people diminish music. They don’t even write their own songs. Music is art. These shows reduce this art into merely a way to make money. The songs don’t mean anything, they were written to appeal to a wide audience so that people will buy the albums. They were written to make money, not for any artistic purpose. And that diminishes music into just another economic device, instead of leaving it as the art that it should be. Pop music has no artistic meaning. It’s only meaning is to make money and that is not what music is meant to be. It’s meant to be about artistic expression, not money. Sorry about the rant, I get carried away a bit.
Oh, I understand. I don’t like how they do that either…it’s just singing someone else’s song…it doesn’t really have any creativity behind it. The first ‘idol’ winner writes most of her own songs…however. And they relate to her own personal experiences, so i don’t have a problem with her. I don’t like how people just try to make money off of it though…that’s not what music’s about.
btw, i wish that I could write down my music…I made up a song todayon my keyboard, but I don’t know how to write (or read) music…so hopefully I don’t forget it.
I typically don’t write music, although I will read it if I am trying to learn a new score. But I usually ad lib, and come up with stuff on the spot. I’ll actually pre-record it on my synthesizer, and then send it through a MIDI cable to my computer. I can then use my sequencer to display the sheet music. It’s like writing music, but for lazy people.
