Hey everyone, I’ve been reading the forums for quite some time and have ventured to the chat rooms the odd time aswell, but I think this might be my first post. I have had 4 lucid dreams, approx once or twice a month. I don’t bother to RC any more, rather I just use the WBTB method and have been lucky enough to have it work every time
Now… to my problem. In all my lucid dreams, I either wake up or just totally forget what happened when I am at the “climax.” For example, in two of my LD’s I have been with beautiful women, when this girl and I are about to make love, it’s as if my mind goes blank. I remember everything up to that point so clearly, and then boom its gone. Another one was in a subway station, I had a lightsaber and Darth Vader was approaching me, I can’t remember a thing after that!
could it possible be the excitement… and the fact that I am still an amateur Lucid Dreamer? Any response is welcomed, I’m missing out on the most exciting part of my dreams!
Do you keep a dream journal? Do you have fairly substantial dream recall every night?
I haven’t personally had a problem like this, though my ld’s have not so far lasted longer than approximately 2 mins. I have heard from other members that if your ld’s are quite long, it is easy to forget some parts.
If you are already able to lucid dream with regularity, perhaps you could practice lucid autosuggestion - tell yourself (during your ld) that you will remember everything upon awakening with vivid clarity and recall. As the link with your subconscious is less substantial when you are dreaming (Kosslyn & Rosenberg, 2001) the theory is that the effect of persuasion on your subconscious mind is more powerful and direct.
I’ve been meaning to give this form of autosuggestion a try myself, though my ld frequency is depressingly low (but I have confidence!! )
I don’t mean the actual climax as in the sexual peak, or orgasm, in my dream. Its as if I am missing the most exciting part, whether it me intercourse with a gorgeous woman or fighting darthvader, haha.
I kept a dream journal online when I first started but haven’t in the last few months, I plan on starting again when I go away this spring break and buy a diary. But I don’t think it has anything to do with dream recall, I can remember everything else crystal clear, just not the most important part(ie: any part of the sex.)
confidence is good , and I’m in no position to give advice because I am still an amateur, but have you tried WBTB? all my lucids have come from waking up 6 hours after I go to bed and reading up on LD’s for about half an hour, then trying to WILD(although I haven’t been able to WILD yet, I have had a lucid everytime… its just clicked inside my dream.)
There´s your answer. When it gets exciting you get engaged too much and forget that you are dreaming. In effect, you lose lucidity and perhaps you have a FA or something wich you don´t remember.
Unfortunately I don´t really have a good tip. Talking to DCs and having sex are known to kill lucidity quite easily, so one option would be to try and avoid such situations. Of course, that would take away the fun of having sex and talking to DCs…
Well, just try to tell yourself that you are about to lose lucidity when the dream gets interesting and try to keep calm and pay extra attention to remember yourself all the time it is a dream.
ok, thanks tapir… I suppose I’ll try a few more times over the coming weeks and hopefully have more luck. Next time I’ll make a note of the most exciting part and try to remember.
Speaking of Darth Vader, I remember a dream I had when I was a little kid sleeping in my old room upstairs… Darth Vader was coming at me and I was running around the house. He was in the basement and so I was peaking by the stairs. He saw me and started at me (very scary) and I scrambled to arm myself… with a cat hair. I eventually won. Oh and woke up of course.
On the contrary, if this works for you everytime then you’re in a perfect position to give advice!!
However, i do WBTB almost every night without fail. I go to bed at around 11 and wake up around 4, type in my dream journal for about 30 mins, go back to bed and practice WILD. No success yet, but like I said I have confidence as I seem to be making some progress. Thanks for the tip!
I’m given to understand that sex, and other exciting lucid-dreaming events or activities are not neccesarily detrimental to lucid dreaming.
Celia Green in her first book on the subject (Lucid Dreaming) documented this notion (it had a whole chapter on the topic). Her second book (I don’t recall the title; it could have been a revised edition – my copy is currently buried in some box in storage), however, pointed out the evidence that forced her to abandon this belief. Another well-known dream researcher (Garfield?) devoted a whole book to the topic of lucid sex dreams. (Again, my copy of the book is in storage right now.)
The idea apparently started when lucid dreaming was viewed as an esoteric practice akin to psychic phenomena, and practitioners were expected to eschew and control “base” desires. (“Spiritual” estacy was, of course, usually seen as a legitimate reward of successful practice).
So don’t worry about getting “too excited”. Newly aquired, developing skill sets tend to be fragile anyways – you’ll manage. Besides, if this stuff wasn’t exciting, we wouldn’t be doing it!
Hey man, keep it up. Sooner or later you’ll get it. Ever since I started the first step to LD-ing – dream recall – and telling myself that after I dream I’ll wake up, I can fall asleep and dream and wake up right after, WITHOUT repeating this to myself at night anymore. Furthermore, I wake up at around 3:00 like clockwork. Usually I don’t wanna WILD because I think it takes too much time and I have to get up at 5:45 to get to work, but often enough it’ll kick in and I can either decide to go with it or fight it. WBTB works wonders for me. I can just wake up and lie there for 5 minutes, I don’t even have to get out of bed. Of course, this was developed over years (without knowing what was happening to me) and now it’s virtually effortless.
Ya snape, I have a feeling in my bones that you’ll get one pretty soon. From personal experience and from the opinions of a few friends that I got into dreaming, enthusiasm is the the best technique. Well guys, tonight I’m going to attempt another WBTB and hopefully it will be another success. I’ll let you know if the exciting part is there, not quite sure what I’m going to do though… I might just explore the dreamworld and try to pay attention to detail .
Gee, thanks guys. I just got a warm fuzzy in my heart after reading your post when I got back from the nightclub I have incidentally found a bizarre correlation between my LD’ing frequency and my computer gaming frequency.
