My first experience with WILD (kind of)

The title may be borderline confusing so I will try to clear some things up. First off I am new to Lucid Dreaming, I was directed to this site last night, and I have only been attempting Lucidity for 2 nights now. Tonight will be night number 3 and as always I am looking forward to it (I only have today and tomorrow off from work so I can really work on concentration and things required to become lucid )

The first night was not a horrible attempt, I feel, because I got myself to the point where my body started to feel tense (I guess) kind of like constricted but not uncomfortable. I thought this was a good sign but after about 3 seconds I lost the feeling, I remember trying and trying to stay focused and getting the feeling at least one more time after that I cannot remember. Last night was a little bit different though of course I got the constricting feeling about 3 times but kept losing it (btw I’m using the 1, I’m dreaming, 2, I’m dreaming counting technique saying the numbers in my head as I take breaths in and saying “I’m dreaming” in my head as I exhale, am I doing this right?).

I have a feeling though without realizing I was in a dream I provoked one into happening. I was in a semi-dark room and everything was shaking rapidly and I had no idea what was going on because I was really scared I could feel it like “a thousand needles in my heart”. Then I looked to my left only to find the exact same stuff shaking on the other side and I was still scared out of my mind. I then felt like I was free falling for a second or two and I landed on my bed right back into my body then I woke up. Was this sheer coincidence? Or did I actually manage to become lucid? Like I said I am very new to this but I really want to give it another shot. If I make it back to that room again I will know what to do.

Hello Angth,
I have been trying to Achieve lucidity by using WILD as well. I have coupled this with WBTB after a 4-hour sleep period. Yesterday, I got something quite similar to what you’re describing (it felt like all my muscles were trying to tense up, but my brain was keeping them relaxed). I tried to concentrate on this feeling and soon I felt that my whole body was rippling like a flag caught in a breeze. Pretty cool stuff, I didn’t feel like I’m falling though.

From what I’ve read on the message board, I believe this was the onset of my sleep paralysis and HI, because shortly I saw a huge picture of some castle and it seemed to be getting closer. Eventually I snapped back to my body, but right before this happened, the image did quiver quite a bit.

I’ll try tonight to keep my consciousness for a bit longer. I think we are on the right track, and getting closer to a full blown LD.

This is great news! I keep losing focus on my counting and such I’m trying to practice every night. Hopefully soon we will both have out first LD!

Thanks for the reply Wolf :content:

I use the same counting method, and sometimes I notice that I drift off by the time I get to say about 40. I think I just have to figure out that delicate point of balance where you can ride on the crest, without falling asleep or waking up.

Same thing here! I lose count some time around 40 and just start over because I figure counting is counting right? Ill notice myself get lost in the “head movies” and stop counting this is how I know I am getting close so that’s usually when I pick up the focus a lot.

I actually managed to become lucid the other night and I thought I had failed because one moment I was hearing all sorts of sounds and people yelling weird things coupled with feeling like someone climbed on my bed and then it all stopped. I thought I failed so I opened my eyes and my dad was there showing off this new video game to me but I just wanted to try it again so I closed my eyes and I went back to my room again fully awake to realize that I was just in a lucid dream thinking I wasn’t (if that makes sense)

I just want to experience it soooooooo bad!!!

I find counting usually doesn’t help, but maybe that’s just me. What I do to relax sometimes is think of a subject, animals for example, and think of an animal for each letter (A - Ape, B - Bat, etc). My friend told me about this. I find it starts to work when I reach a letter where I can’t think of anything for the subject, and my mind starts to drift.

Another tip is when you’re in a relaxed state and start to see HI, try to listen in for a ringing sound. Don’t try to create a ringing sound in your head, just tune into one that is already there. If you do this right, the ringing should start getting louder and louder until your body starts vibrating. The vibrations will get intense but they are nothing to fear, I actually find them quite enjoyable. Once the ringing and vibrations reach their peak, the ringing and vibrations will change and you should have a sensation hard to describe, but it feels like you “broke through” something. You are now in the dream world. Instead of trying to open your eyes, just try feeling around your environment and as you feel around, your vision should come in.

Now tips for staying lucid. I find it helps to touch and inspect random things around you every now and then. Don’t focus on one object for too long though. If you feel yourself fading out at any point, try any (or all) of the following: rub your hands together, focus on little details around you, yell “INCREASE CLARITY”, or spin around.

Most importantly, have fun

CRW,
Thank you for the tip! The alphabet sounds like something that could keep my brain from focusing on what “I should be” feeling.

Angth,
Congrats!!!
I read about your dream earlier today in another topic, and it’s great! Sounds like you’re more than half-way there now. Just don’t forget about those RC Stops typing to do a RC.

it seems like when i try to WILD right when i see some HI like maybe starting to take a shape, my heart skips a beat cuz i get really excited like im talking REALLY excited and then i lose the HI … :meh: still never had a successful WILD

My advice for that is, assuming you’re trying to ignore your heartbeat or regulate it, just passively acknowledge it and let it be.

Thanks Wolf!

CRW I think I’m going to steal that technique tonight, because it definitely sounds like one that will keep aware more than counting, seeing as counting is always the same. As opposed to actually thinking about what is keeping you concentrated (as confusing as that sounds, I almost confused myself writing it  ).

As for Limitles, how long have you been trying to achieve WILD? I also get really excited whenever I’m close and that is why I usually have to start over multiple times a night, and eventually fall asleep forgetting when was the last time I was conscience. I feel the more you try to achieve WILD the less exciting it is going to seem when you get close, seeing as you will have experienced the feeling more than once. From my standpoint (which is not professional and is far from experienced) I would just keep trying, like anything it will come with good time
