My first lucid dream! - but I can't figure out how I did it

Last night I had my first lucid dream! It was incredible; one minute everything was dull and foggy and then suddenly I realized and BAM it was like I had just been woken up, except not. Unfortunately I was two excited to think of anything to do before I woke up. I didn’t expect it to be that short.

Anyway, I have no idea how I got about to doing it. You see I went to bed at around nine, and today I was meant to be going into school a bit late for an orthodontist appointment. I was only in the remembering dreams stage, and said to myself:“I want to remember my dream tomorrow, and I want it to be interesting.” I went to sleep after about an hour, but forgot to change my alarm from 6:30 to 7:00. So I woke up dreary-eyed at around 6:35, listening to my alarm, and sort of groped out for it to switch it off, not really awake, and went promptly back to sleep. And then suddenly I was in a dream: I can’t remember anything before one point. I had just walked into the living room of my house when I saw my two cats lying on their playtoy/bedthing. Except there were four of them - two of each. I suspected I was dreaming so I did an improvised reality check - I remembered their positions, turned away, and looked back, and they had changed. I was excited but not sure, so I turned my head away and saw my friend from school sitting in a chair, with a cowboy hat on. I asked him, “I’m dreaming, right?” and he replied, “Why yes you are.” I realised I was Lucid and felt great. And then suddenly he yelled at me, “QUICKLY RUN HE’S COMING!” and pushed me out as a crowd came in through the back door. I didn’t know who he was, just the fact that he was in the crowd and I was trying to get away from him, I ran up to the stairs, stepped up - and woke up in bed. CRAP.

So, can anyone tell me what sort of induction technique I used? I think it might have been WBTB but didn’t I wake up kind of late for that? I’d really like to know so I can refine the technique and do it more often - It was the greatest feeling!

Thanks alot guys!

Well obviously its a RC induced dream.

But im guessing your asking what prompted the RC?

My guess is that a) a little bit of autosuggestion was involved b) maybe CAT as well.

Defintly the waking up early helped, Most of my LD’s are because of some sort of WBTB.

You certainly did use WBTB there, even if it was an accident. The time that is recommended for WBTB is recommended because if you wake up at those times, when you are going back to sleep you would be about to start a REM period. It’s not required to wake at those exact times it just has the best results then  By the sounds of it you did have an RC induced lucid dream. It was probably caused by an increase in your awareness of Lucid Dreams  So if I were you I would look at MILD and WBTB.
