My first lucid dream....i think?

So I think I had a lucid dream… but I am not really sure. I’ve been doing MILD for about two weeks now, and for the first time last night I did it along with WBTB. And I had this really long normal dream. Ill just skip to the important part. At one point in the dream (near the end) me and my friends went to the mall. But after a little shopping (and some dragon slaying) we got bored and decided to go home. And as I was returning to my car I saw a nice lady sitting in her car  . So I went to talk to her but as I was sitting next to her I thought to my self " Am I dreaming?" so I looked at my hands to do a RC. And my hands had four fingers! So I was like  . But right when I turned to look at her the dream faded REALLY fast. And as it was darkening I heard a very loud noise like a gunshot. When everything was pitch black I started seeing very bad images of dead people. I was then stuck there trying to wake myself up. But I couldn’t. I then just decided to relax until it was over. And at some point when I thought that I think I lost lucidity. btw that last scary part happened over the course of like 20 seconds. Oh and I got a really bad feeling in my chest. So a short time after that I woke up and was like  . But anyway if any of you guys could help me? Was this a lucid dream or no? And any advice for handling that nightmare part? So if anyone could explain what happened to me I would be most grateful. thanks guys!

Any dream where you realize you are dreaming is by definition a lucid dream, so assuming that  means you realized you were dreaming, yes then it was a lucid dream . One way to wake up from a dream is to lie down in your dream and close your eyes. Another is to concentrate on one object and look at it without looking away. Of course given your circumstances I think the lying down and closing your eyes option would be better.

Or try to create a new scene: imaging a new scene, and spin around quickly in a circle, imagining the next think you’ll see is your desired scene.

The first things one should do upon becoming lucid is to stay calm and engage your senses (touch, sight, smell, hearing, as well as vision) in the dream in order to stabilize it. Touch things, look around. Staring hard at one thing has a tendency to undo the dream. You probably just got really excited  Although it seems you didn’t wake up right away your subconscious played a little trick on you “haha, think you’re entering Disneyland, eh? Here, take this instead: (dead people)”.

haha my subconscious sounds like a troll! next time I get the chance ill make sure to stabilize the dream as much as I can. Thanks for your advice!

Dreams realize your expectations. Also your unconscious expectations. This is why we dream for example of somebody robbing us when we dream of a dark alley. I fear that somebody might rob be (unconscious expectation) and what happens next? See those big ugly brutes coming down the alley to rob me?

Another example from lucid dreams when I was younger: I was conscious in my dream and decided to fly. After flying some 15 seconds I was starting to think “Wait a minute. I can’t really fly, can I!?” What happens next: I start tumbling down from the sky like a rock and the earth crushing towards me with terrible speed. I realized what I was doing with my thoughts and expectations and still remembered that I was dreaming. So I thought “Yes this is a dream and yes I can fly in a dream!” I soared up to the sky again.

The secret is to expect positive. When flying believe you can fly. When walking a dark alley expect your best dream friends to come join the fun. You will get what you expect.

So next time you are in the dark expect something nice to happen. Plan it beforehand and do it in a dream situation. Give doubt no time at all. Expect the positive as it already happened.

(And yes, you don’t know all of your unconscious expectations. This is where the dream practice comes tricky and you really have to face your innermost self. It is worth it)
