My LDs end weirdly? How to get out?

I LD occasionally, and for short amounts of time - it’s not a skill I consciously work on, I just enjoy it when it happens. They usually only last a few minutes though.

Anyways, my LDs almost never end by me just waking up, they usually end by the dream universe “falling apart” - it is hard to describe in out-of-dream terms because it kind of goes beyond normal vision.
Essentially, think of the sky ripping apart, all matter dissolving and tearing itself apart, until I am left floating alone in a sort of vortex, surrounded by bright flashing and bizarre patterns, with a feeling of myself being pulled somewhere - then a weird transition feeling and I am awake in my bed.

It seems in this scenario I can’t preserve lucidity by the common methods such as staring at my hands or spinning. I’ve tried them, and all that happened was me staring at my hands in the middle of this vortex of chaos. I guess the dream was prolonged, but I couldn’t do anything, because I was the only thing that existed. Trying to create objects didn’t work, and I am otherwise good at creating and manipulating objects during the time that I have lucid.

Anyways, I assume this is not a normal way for dreams to end? It is kind of a disturbing experience, actually. Can anyone think of what to do in this situation to break out of this ending and continue my dream?

Hi Rectifier, welcome to the forum!

What happens to you sounds a bit weird, but it is nothing to worry about, remember that. Weird stuff just happens in dreams. Anway, if I were you I would just wait out the ride through the vortex as long as I could, probably enjoying it, and see where it ends. Perhaps a new dream might come if you wait patiently long enough. Part of the “problem” might be that you are now expecting this to happen when you get lucid. You could try to prevent this from happening by using stabilising techniques the moment you get lucid. Try rubbing hands and focussing on objects etc. Good luck .

In the blackness - you could try spinning? That usually staberlises the dream, and creates a new dreamscape.

I agree with Xetrov that this is most likely happening because you’ve come to expect it too. You could always try getting past that expectation.

Yeah that seems obvious, I should’ve thought of that . It probably is a thing that I am creating myself after it happened a few times. In fact, as soon as I become lucid, I accidentally reinforce it by thinking things like “got to do cool things fast, before it falls apart on me again”

Next time if it starts to happen I’ll just deny that it is and instead of trying to hold it together, just try to switch scenes entirely. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the welcome, too… this looks like a cool forum, though I don’t really LD enough to make much of a contribution. Cool to read though
