I used to get this a lot.
I’d have a lucid dream one morning, and I’d have such a feeling of accomplishment, and pride, and just overall happiness, that I’d be able to have another one by willpower alone, either that same morning or the next day.
This was a few years ago, back when I first started to practise lucid dreaming. The problem is, the ‘feeling’, which is what I believe my ability to have the second or third LD by will, never lasted more than a few days at most. If I could’ve maintained that confidence, that special something, I’m sure I’d be Freecube’s or R3TRO’s level by now, but I just can’t seem to get ‘it’ to last.
Has anyone else come accross this problem, or maybe even, overcome it?
Never came across it, nor evercame(spl?) it. I was going to say, “you need to get that confidence back man”, but then you mentioned you couldn’t maintain the confidence and I was kind of out of advice to give. But then I remembered something I was planning to do when I had a fairly good LD.
Have you ever asked yourself in your LD’s what you could do to have more LD’s?
I think you could also try meditating. As they say, it seems to help you in almost everything. The book I read even implicitly said it helps you in Sex. The guy said it reinforces your libido(the pleasure thingy). I think in the Sex case meditation should help you both getting laid and while laid.
me: Yeah, I think I’ll try that medication thing your talking about!
The answer to this can be different from person to person. Perhaps once you attain lucidity you become overconfident so you don’t put as much effort into your induction techniques. Thus, your intention to become lucid gets weaker so you fail. From there you fall back into the trap of believing that lucid dreaming is hard which becomes like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Then you have another lucid dream and the cycle starts all over again.
Just try to stay consistent with practicing. My guess is that you will get better in time just stay positive.
Happy Dreaming
As it happens I started practising meditation, but I just couldn’t seem to stick with it. I will try again definatly, I’ll just have to make the time.
I also have thought of asking a dream character to let me know I’m dreaming next time I’m dreaming, I haven’t had the chance to try it yet though. In my next LD I’m going to, if I can remember to that is. I also want to go on a ‘dreamsign hunt’ in my next lucid dream, to get a bit more familiar with my dreams. if I did that, I’m sure it would help me become lucid more often. Other than that I’m out of ideas.
Anyone else have any ideas?
I see that you lack willpower a bit. You didn’t stick with meditation…
Try to work that out to! Confidence and will-power aren’t necessarily connected, but they can be! You should have the willpower to do it, and you should be confident that you can do it and that you have the willpower to do it!
NIKE - Just Do It (ohhh so easy to say…)
That is a big problem with me, lack of willpower that is.
Thats probably the main reason I fail at this I guess. What I need is to boost my confidence, keep doing my techniques and be patient, that ought to do it
Staying confidant and having patients is important and should help you a great deal.
However, it is also important to practice your techniques consistently and seriously. I.e. Keep a DJ every day, do reality checks every day (but do them seriously don’t just go through the motions.) Etc…
Meditation is very good for lucid dreaming so try to get back into that if you can. No one says you have to meditate for hours per day but, if you just take just 15min to ½ hour per day to do your meditation you will see some positive results.
Happy Dreaming
Well, it’s been only two days since my last lucid dream, and I still feel like I could go have another one tonight
This confidence problem seems to be going away, I will keep up with my RCs and my DJ so I don’t get rusty.
