My RC didn't work

Hey guys,

This is my first time to post and I would like to say I love the website. I took the recommendation to get the “creative dreaming” book off of eBay for $.01 and have been reading it before I go to bed. I have been on this site reading for a couple of weeks. Anyways down to business…

Last night I had my first LD. Me and my former roommate (just moved back home for summer) were walking down underground but I can’t remember why. The first thing we noticed was one side was all subway restaurants lined all the way down. I was thought to myself “subways awesome…wait this is kind of a nightmare to only have subways”. At this point I realized it was a dream. I got so excited but didn’t care because I was just happy it happened.

This is where I have a question. My first reaction was to try put my finger through my hand. It didn’t work, and this was weird. Then I some how saw a clock and it said “4:22” and i looked away and looked back and it was the same. Why would this happen? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Sorry for the long first post and thank you for your input on this.

First of all, congratulations and welcome! :ok:
How long have you been trying lucid dreams?

And with the clock, you just RC-ed.
Which means you were dreaming. But some RC-s might not work.

If you have like 3-4 RC-s at a time, and try all of 'em, they might not work, but if any of them would, you must be dreaming.
Many people recommend that you practice them when you’re awake. Though it sounds silly some times.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thank you for your response. I have been “trying” for about a week or so. For the past few days I have been trying much more and putting more effort into it. I think the book is really helping me keep my mind on it when I fall asleep.

I will try and practice RC while i am awake and find out some more to use to help out.

For starters, congratulations for having your first LD and welcome to the forums

As Siddi5 said, practicing RCs during your time awake usually helps in noticing them in dreams. This might be because it becomes a routine for the brain, dunno.

I’ve heard that plugging your nose and trying to breathe is an effective way to do an RC. Quite reliable me thinks.

I hope you’ll experience many future trips to the world of dreams. Good luck :content:

I dont even bother with RCs. Once I realize I am dreaming I just rub my hands, spin around, and repeat “I am dreaming” to gain full lucidity. Been good to me so far.
