Need some guidance

Hello, im new as you may have noticed and i have a few questions. I have always have had good dream recall, and can remember most of my dreams. Occasionally i know i am dreaming, but i never really realize that i can control it while i am actually dreaming, although i know that i can control it while i am awake This morning and the previous morning, i tried WBTB, but was not succesfull. The first night, i fell right back asleep. The second night, i stayed up 45 minutes then went back to sleep, but when i tried to fall asleep, but could not so i stayed up for three hours until i finally fell asleep, but had a very vivid dream after. Any suggestion how to get this to work? I read somewhere that you should get up every 20 minutes, only staying awake long enough to write in your DJ. Has anyone tried this, and does this work. Finally, in my dream this morning, i saw this amazing view, so when i woke up i drew it, but i am a terrible artist, so i was wondering if someone would volunteer to help me? I will send you the picture that i drew and give you descriptions to help you.
Thankyou

Welcome to LD4all, 9, glad to have you here. To answer your question about how long to stay up for a WBTB, there isn’t any set time that you should stay up for. For me, it’s usually about fifteen minutes, but that’s because I’m a heavy sleeper and that gives me enough time to wake up without becomming so much awake that I can’t get back to sleep. If you pay attention when you wake up for the WBTB, you’ll feel yourself waking up enough to not knock back out, then you’ll feel yourself waking up completely. The best time to go back to sleep is between these.

I haven’t had a perfect record with LDs using this technique, but I always have some interesting dream that morning.

yeah, the best thing to do with WBTB, I think, is play around with the times:

  • how long you sleep before you get up
  • and how long you stay up

you can also do some stuff like listening to music and turning on the lights to wake your mind up. maybe even just turn on the light and open your eyes, without getting out of bed, until you feel your mind is awake (the middle state wolvendeer talked about)

good luck and welcome to ld4all!
