It’s important to stay motivated. Every night before bed, make a personal note to remember your dreams, much like you would remind yourself why you set your alarm early (instead of hitting the snooze button immediately). Through sheer will you will eventually remember something. At that point, record every last detail you can.
I don’t know how acceptable a method this is, but until you start remembering, make it up! Just start writing about what could have been your dream. Daydream and record that. Get into the mental habit.
And remember: dreaming happens in cycles. Perhaps waking up 15 minutes earlier will make all the difference.
First, set your alarm clock to some time in hour and a half intervals after you go to bed. For instance if you go to bed at 12:00 PM, set your alarm for 6:00, or 7:30 or 9:00. Going shorter than 4:30 probably wouldn’t be as effective. As you go to sleep instead of focusing on having an LD focus on remembering/recalling dreams. I say this because if you’re dream recall is in the tank trying to LD will be discouraging because you will forget any LD’s you might have. I would recommend focusing only on dream recall until you reach the point where you’re remembering at LEAST 1 vivid dream a night.
The other thing to do is to as soon as you wake up just sit there and think, see if you can get a mood, image, or maybe a whole dream sequence to come to you. Once you get something passively contemplate it and see if it leads you to remember anything else.
someone suggested that i try and do that “sit and think” thing yesterday. i tried it and i only remembered two parts of the dream, so i didn’t bother writing them down. once i remember a dream it stays in my mind. so yea, i should work on my dream recall first before having an LD?
It’s important to write down anything you can remember about a dream. Even if you only remember a few parts of it. Dream recall is extremely important in an LD. What fun is an LD if you don’t remember it?
I’d say no, but definitely write down any new dreams you have, even if its just a fragment or even a mood/feeling. It’s perfectly okay to have a DJ entry that just says happy, or angry, or white dog. It does not by any means have to be a coherent story or sequence.
I agree with what Lucidity Master had to say, only to make it a bit more useful, instead of sitting and thinking, when you wake up, keep as still as possible, and lay on your back looking up, do not try to think about your dreams, just lie there, thoughts should come to you.
It is not necessary to write anything, you should always what you feel you should be doing. Nonetheless, contemplating on your dreams in any way, whether its as firm as writing or just thinking about them, constantly running the scenario in your head over and over again will gradually improve your recall, writing is very useful as it is very solid and also can be looked at later which will remember you your past dreams -----> better dream recall.
When you wake up, try to just lay still in your bed, and think of what happened in the dreams you had. Moods, emotions, feelings, write it all down. Oh, and I once woke up, and I was trying to recall my dreams, I forgot I was trying to recall my dreams, and started thinking about something else, and guess what? I was thinking about what happened in the dream I just had as if it happened in waking life yesterday. Anyway, once I realized I forgot about recalling my dream, I started trying again. I just completely forgot I was just thinking about my dream! But then I started thinking: “Wait a minute! What was I thinking just a moment ago?.” I remembered a lot of details of the dream.
So, I’d say it’s important to watch what you’re thinking about from the moment you wake up.
I have a question to lucidity master or any of experienced users ;]
I have i guess good dream recall, but i never remember all of dream, just scenes/pictures ;]
it is normal and good? will i remember all of my dream scenes with years of practicing and DJ keeping?
peace
After using a dream journal for a while you should notice you start remembering more about your dreams. I’m not sure if it’s possible to remember all of your dreams, but you should remember quite a bit.
You won’t need YEARS of practice and DJ keeping. If you make an effort to remember as much of your dreams as you can, even if it’s just scenes and pictures, you’ll start to remember more very soon. This is because your brain will become accustomed to the whole remembering dreams thing.
You’ll notice a huge difference in just a few weeks. I first went from recalling 3 dreams in one week (from the day I started getting into LDs) to recalling around 12 two weeks later. That was last year. I stopped trying for almost a year. I started again on September 22nd this year.
From 22 September till 30 September I recalled a total of 15 dreams. That’s an average of almost 2 per night.
From 1 October till 12 October I recalled a total of 41 dreams. That’s almost 3.5 dreams per night. Also, the first few days in October I recalled fewer dreams than in the second week.
Dream recall can improve rapidly so long as you just have the right motivation and intention. Of course results will be different for everyone.
iDharma!
we forget our dreams for almost 100% by waking up for a second in the middle of night. Try to set the alarm on 4 o clock in the night and on 6 o clock
I have great dream recall because i woked up 3 times and everytime i was noting my dreams
