paganism/witchcraft (longesh post)

Ok I tried asking this question at a nother site I go to like everday to answer and post questions, but I think i asked it in the wrong place, lol. I got replys but I really needed more help then I got, most of the replys I got were telling me I was wrong and to not do it.

Well as you can see in my title I am interested in paganism/witchcraft. VEry interested. I thought that sense this place deals with dream stuff and other things like that a lot better then the other site does, that maybe I would have a better chance getting some help.

Now I know in paganism you can worship any god/goddess, or any # of them. But I would be sticking with just god like in the christian church, because thats how I was raised. Now I know a lot of people here might be saying christian that’s bs if she’s getting into witchcraft, but I think that there isn’t any right or wrong religion, and I would like to mix these two.

from the time I was little tiny I was told It was evil, but yesterday I talked to my mom about it adn all she said was to be careful. I wouldn’t be doing anything bad with it, but I want to learn it. i’ve tried getting onto the web, and they have really junky info, and how to start you outers. also I live in Utah and that means 90% of people here are mormons, Im not, and don’t have a problem with mormons, but they wouldn’t ever sell books like that here. lol.

so can anyone help me out?
thanks.

Man I’m sorry but the best stuff I’ve ever learned was from books…And yeah some people take paganism or wicca as a polytheist religion but actually all the gods or archetypes are actually just pieces of the All,or God if you prefer. The God/Goddess are the Ying/Yang. You call on who you need as calling on part of yourself or the universe you need for the situation. And following witchcraft doesn’t automatically means you don’t believe in Jesus or that you are evil. It’s just another way to pray. You can still have free will and believe in Jesus. Many Christians used spells way back when. As with anything regardless of the header its under witchcraft is not evil unless your intentions are. Actually there is a page. Puzuzo or something I can’t find it right now,I’ll keep looking, but there are also Christian witch groups and wicca groups all over the internet. I suggest you order books online first though cause there are some decisions you need to make. Like do you want to be solitary or part of a coven? I prefer solitary because I don’t like organized religion so much. You have to see what appeals to you. What feels right. OK? Hope that was at least some help. Oh and they even have the complete idiot’s guide to wicca/witchcraft. That might be mild enough for Utah and it’s really pretty good

I guess I’ll have to be the voice of decent here. I honestly don’t see how you could practice witchcraft (Wicca) and still claim to be a Christian. The two religions are complexly different.

Anyway if you can not find the books you are looking for in your home town then try amazon.com and order the books through the mail.

Sorry, but born Catholic, Went to Catholic school for 8 years. There are way more similarities than differences. Except for that whole misogynistic BS. Most of the Christian practices are based on pagan religions and don’t tell me that isn’t common knowledge. And the stuff on this whole forum is more in line with so called “witchcraft” but that doesn’t mean people don’t believe in Jesus or are Christian

Hmmmm… How can you mix a religion which first commandment says: “Thou shalt not have other gods besides me” and polytheism? Say you’re sort of pantheist, and believe in a multi-facet god, but don’t say you’re christian… though I’ve seen so-called christians who believed in reincarnation…

What do you think the Trinity is no matter how you try to say it. Three pieces of the same God and please see my above post I just edited it.Just because what is here now has been manipulated by men to their use doesn’t mean its the only way or that they are right. Don’t try to tell me what is being Christian or whether i belive in Christ. I know by the Catholic definition I’m not because I don’t really believe that God left us hanging all those years before Jesus came. No I don’t see how He would do that.I’m sure that other religions come from Him just as much. But I know Jesus came from Him to help us know Him. To show us how. But I also believe it was men who created our narrow definitions to get their minds around something they couldn’t understand

Being Mormon you’d think I’d be yelling at you to stay away from it. To be honest, I really don’t care. Do what you want.

Depending on if you consider energy manipulation (psi, ki, chi and such) witchcraft, I actually practice it myself. I don’t consider it to be witchcraft, mainly because if I did, I’d be excommunicated for practicing it, but go ahead and try.

Milod searches his memory from catholic school.
I believe the exact quote is, “ I am the lord your god thou shalt not worship no other god before me”. When you think about it the “arch-angels” such as Gabriel are minor deities.

Yes, there are a lot of similarities between the two but, there are also some important differences as well. In Wicca the deities such as Mother Earth are symbolic. They do not worship her as an entity who passes judgement over them. It is a celebration of life force and nature not a being. That may only be a minor distinction to you but it is an important one. Perhaps you will find a way to combine the different beliefs but, you would have a completely new religion. You would be neither Christian nor Wicca. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Perhaps on your journey you will find new truths for yourself.

Yes Milod, I don’t think God passes judgement. I don’t believe He doesn’t have better things to do. What keeps us away from Him is that sinning keep us in a place where we can’t understand Him or know Him. Thats why it hurts Him so, He doesn’t do it. We do it to ourselves. That’s what Jesus came to teach us, I believe. But there are already Christian Witches and yes Mother Earth is a symbol for nature, one of many things that come from the All. So you worship her you worship the All

LOL Milod! When I searched on the net the translation of this quote in English, I found merely this one; what is curious, as in French it’s something like : “Thou shalt have no other gods but Me”. Your translation means there could be a lot of gods which could be worshipped too…

I don’t think that lucid dreaming, meditating or putting little mayan smileys in your sig has something to do with witchcraft. Just my opinion, though…

Yes that is the point that I was making. Christianity is not a single god religion.

That is why you really can not combine the two religions. See, in Wicca there is no Him or Her for that matter. Not in the sense of some omnipotent being/beings out there. It is kind of hard to explain. I do not practice Wicca but, I did have an interest in it some time ago. A good book for you to read would be “Spiral Dance” (I forget who the author is) it will give you a better understanding of what Wicca is. My own beliefs are more closely associated with Buddhism or possibly Taoism but, I do not really practice either. I guess you could say that I sort of go my own way.

I hate to be the ‘philosophically correct’ fun spoiler here, but why define yourself with religion bluedolfin87? You can just be you, not needing to call yourself a witch or a christian. Even with those titles your still you, right?
Well, that was all probably completely irrelevent :content:
Anyways I’m not a christian, but I think the idea of witchcraft is kinda silly. Still, if it’s what you want to do, then I think you should do it. You’re parents are obviously only telling you to be careful because they care about your safety, which is nice of them  I don’t think its possible to hurt someone with this stuff, outside of offending them because of their beliefs or something, so like I said, go for it

just a small comment but it is possible to make a god out of money, fame, celebrity etc…

I agree. I borrow many ideas from Christianity, Wicca, Buddhism, and Taoism, but I am not a member of any of these religions.

Furthermore, Gandhi drew the bulk of his beliefs directly from Jesus, but he was not a Christian.

So true…but if you want to…Sometimes when you’re trying to describe to somebody what your beliefs are it helps…usually I just say I’m spiritual but I really don’t think anyone has the right to tell anyone else whether they are something or not. Look at all the different Christian sects…most of whom were called heretics by the catholic church… but they are all followers of Christ, yes?

Well yes and no! I am not sure any of the sects follows the actual teachings. Anyway, I am personally anti- organized religion so, who am I to say.

Going you own way sounds fine to me as I said above. I just don’t see how you can combine the two religions? In Christianity they believe in a god and Jesus was the son of god. In Wicca they do not acknowledge the existence of “God or Jesus”. Furthermore; in the Wiccan traditions, they don’t really put emphasis on the struggle between “good” and “evil”. But the Christian religions put great emphasis in the concept of sin and the struggle between god and the devil. To me it is like comparing apples to oranges. Mind you I am not criticizing here. I am just curious as to how you combine the two. Believe me, I am all for people exploring their own spirituality for themselves.

From what I understand, of course I’m far from an expert, God=All, They see the battle of good and evil as an inner battle, As two true parts of nature that you have to acknowledge and there is evil consequence to evil action…You just don’t choose not to acknowlege the existance of something, Jesus lived historical fact, what he is and where he came from decides whether you are Christian or not. You can believe that God sent Jesus as the messiah to save us, course I see his way of saving us and from what different from most Christians. I am just not that physical. But that doesn’t negate the fact that I believe in Him. Doesn’t contradict with my views of the natural state of things either or that you can call on archtypes as part of, a what universal consciousness or energy?, for help like you would call on Angels or saints. Pray anyway you like it’s still prayer…It goes to the same place…

Yes, but apples combined with oranges provides for a much healthier diet than either apples or oranges alone.

As a Pantheist, I believe that all phenomena in the universe are a direct result of one source, thus all religions are simply an interpretation of pathways to that source, by definition. I believe that all religions contain some truth. My job is just to sift through what is true and what is not, and pick out the true parts and put them all in one big bowl of knowledge.

 ! So you can’t tell somebody that their belief is wrong just because it isn’t the exact same as yours…Or tell them what their “label” is or isn’t…um, You know what…s***labels anyway

I don’t recall ever saying that your belief was “wrong”. I was just curious as to how you combined the two different religions. If I even implied that your faith was “wrong” I apologize.
