Anyone read “Only You Can Save Mankind” by Terry Pratchett? There is a lot of LDing (and SDing) in it…
Cool, maybe should check it out. In what way does it involve LDs and SDs?
Man, my family has been raving about Terry Pratchett for the longest time but I have never read any of his stuff. Guess I should check out the book you mentioned.
Well, it’s not really book about LD’ing. It’s about a boy who plays a video game and suddenly starts to dream about it… then he meets his friend… It’s very funny story, but don’t expect any LD-specific stuff… but Pratchett is worth reading anyways.
No Pratchett fans on this board? I can’t believe!
I’m reading one at the moment
“Monstrous Regiment” by Terry Pratchett.
I have read all the disc world books, I remembered reading the book you mentioned but couldn’t remember the content.
pav… your avatar…where have i seen that?
is that the necromaner guy from that old pc game Loom???
anyway back on topic! this book sounds a little interesting i think ill check it out.
Yes, blazinfish, that’s (grr, ‘necromancer guy’) Bobbin Threadbare from the wonderful adventure game that is LOOM. Here he is seen standing next to the last leaf of autumn.
I got to read that book, I love Pratchett anyway, but I didn´t knew he had something related to dreaming
For those who don´t know him, IMHO his style is very similiar to Douglas Adams (the hitchhikers guide to galaxy)
It’s not about Discworld, but from Johnny Maxwell series (Johnny and the bomb, Johnny and the dead, Only you…)
The boy in it after so much playing a game with a starfighter ends in a dream with a spaceship… everything is like he expects (he controls it with joystick etc.). Then he has a shared lucid dream with a girl and the surroundings are taken from their minds (she likes Alien movies, so the ship starts to look in this way etc).
And there is funny (to us LDers) moment when a clock after his waking up shows some rubbish like 68:=&. Unfortunately it’s not a FA, but broken alarm clock
BTW nice to see that people remember and like LOOM
ah Loom. twas a great game. i think. i was too young to understand it and i dont remeber much about it, but i vaguely remember turning sheep green so the dragon doesnt eat them. and also at the end did they all turn to swans or is my memory just playin tricks on me?!
anyway back on topic, this book sounds very interesting, ill definetly have to pick it up. thanks for sharing it with us pav.
What a great idea… Bobbin Threadbare as an avatar… But I can’t see it, so I’m guessing you’ve changed it. Loom was cool. Speaking of games, isn’t that an extremely obscure quote from Resident Evil 1 in your signature, Blazinfish? That’s the only part of it that I can remember. I never actually owned it you see, I just played it at a friends house for about 5 minutes…
Only You Can Save Mankind is a great book. It’s sort of about lucid dreams, except with computer games instead of dreams. And there’s some dreams in it as well, I suppose. I read it quite a while ago…
obscure quote? i dont know what obscure means but yes WaNnAbE it is a quote from Resindent Evil. found in the Keeper’s Diary.
