Pressure on head & ears

moved from beyond forum

Alright. This has always happened to me but has gotten worse in the past couple years and occurs way more… so I thought i’d finally ask about it.

Okay so. This is what usually happens when I -know- i’m falling asleep… in the mornings.

i’ll start to hear this extreme… static in my ears that causes much discomfort, weird random noises as well… and i get this sharp pressure across my head, and much discomfort again in my ears for some reason

sometimes im in my bed in the dream, and when i try to move the pressure gets worse and the static gets louder and weighs me down. not all the time though… like one time i just saw scenery and my ears continued to hear this static and my head felt the pressure…
so when i woke up today i had a headache for a bit, and right now my ears are hurting… I don’t get it o_o im not that educated when it comes to dreams so i hope you guys can help me out here…it is definitely bothersome…but ya this doesnt happen in ‘normal’ dreams, just when i know im dreaming/falling asleep…lucid i suppose yeah.

thankyou

Hi, and :welcome:

The noises would be called HS, Hypnagogic Sounds, that come as your dreaming mind overrides your physical ears.
The discomfort? I can only imagine it’s from not understanding what you’re experiencing, and interpreting it with a ‘pain-signal’ mixed in.

This sounds like (partial?) SP, or Sleep Paralysis, settling in; The body sends a chemical signal to the muscles in order to prevent movement during sleep.
I have had SP that puts forth a bit of discomfort/mild pain, which I think usually stems from some muscles being asleep, while others are still tense, and being conscious, or mentally awake, you can still tense up that muscle even more, while other muscles are sleeping.

You just made a ton of people jealous, because that’s the beginning of a WILD, or Wake-Induced Lucid Dream! From there you can actually Enter that scenery, and interact with your environment!

I’m really not sure about all the headache, or discomforts, but I suppose it’s possible you may have some extra tension to begin with that helps keep your mind awake as your body is falling asleep, simultaneously causing extra discomforts, or possibly just the unknown (often interpreted by a bodily sense or jolt(s) of ‘fear’) is causing the discomfort.

So I think coming here was a Great decision! again :welcome:

Next time it happens, hopefully understanding a bit more about what you’re experiencing will help you enjoy the process and eliminate the discomforts!

Have you ever thought of anything you would enjoy doing in a LD?

hi and welcome

Just to add to the above post, if it continues happening for some time after you are fully awake and/or it gets worse you might want to check with a doctor, just to be sure  besides that, when you are falling asleep conscious you can experience some really weird things  I myself haven’t felt pain, but lots of dicomfort for sure…

this happens to me sometimes when i AP i dont know if its my physical body feeling the pain or my astral body. im glad to hear im not the only one.

Finally, someone who has the same thing I have. I have this things also when I wake up in the middle of the night. Once or twice I remained relaxed and I felt paralyzed after which I have entered a dream right away. But most of the times I just can’t stand it because I feel like very scared.

Happened again today. I’ve said to myself that I would remain calm but I couldn’t. After a few seconds of static and pressure on ear I “woke up” and I was in SP but I got out of it quickly. I’ve tried one more time but I experienced the same thing…
I need to find a way to remain calm while all that is happening.
