So far I had about 11 LDs, but in each of them I have same problem. In dream, it feels like I’m doing those dream actions “now”. But when I wake up, it doesn’t feel like I did things in my dream few minutes/hours ago. No, those memories seem very old. To be specific, they seem very similiar to my early childhood memories. I remember what I did but I also remember that 14 years ago I was standing in my living room and playing with my imaginary toy (don’t laugh, some ppl got imaginary friends I had a toy ) and my mother was surprised because I tried to hide from her when I was playing with my “toy”. But the image is blurry and and contains a single scene. It’s same with my dreams, I remember one blurry scene, then another, and another and it makes up for a nice slide show, often with blank spots (good thing is that I recall LDs better than NDs).
Do any of you have same problem? Because this is a problem, I want to remember what I did in my LD like I did this a moment before, or short time ago not like I remember it now. Is this a problem with dream recall? I recall usually 1-3 NDs per day, is that okay?
Please tell me what you think
hmmm ive noticed thats happened to me too. One thing you can do tho is when you are in a LD you can purposely wake yourself up when youve accomplished what you wanted and it will feel like you JUST did it. I would recommend that cuz sometimes in the lucid dream it will turn into a ND and youll barely remember it in the morning. You can wake urself up by focusing on your real body in bed and blinking- closing your eyes hard, always a nightmare favorite – and you could try jumping off a building etc…
I think it actually depends on the dream itself, although Dream Recall helps too, of course. I have both types of dreams. The ones that are about daily life, boring events seem to be very blurry when I wake up. Feels like it happened a year ago. On the other hand, the dreams which involve adventures, exciting stuff, high emotion levels, lucid dreams tend to be more clear when you try to remember them. Maybe, if the dream is not interesting, we tend to forget huge parts of it, and what is left is usually an unclear memory, blurry images etc.
Dreams are not old memories, but vague ones. You remember them like you remember old memories from your childhood (I do too) because during the dream you aren’t supposed to be aware, conscious of the fact that you are dreaming. But when you have a LD something happens. Like Mars said in one of his posts about the PFC (here), when having a DILD the brain’s logical center (PFC) powers up for a few seconds. If you don’t use those seconds to get even more aware you’ll lose lucidity easily. Now the point is that you remember your dreams (LDs) like old memories, because they happened during a time they weren’t supposed to. Plus the awakening process which is so complicated it almost erases everything.
Recall isn’t the most important thing, really. It’s the best thing you can do for sure, especially at the beginning, but it’s not crucial for LD’s. I mean, you can still have LD’s without it. Don’t count the dreams per night, count the intensity of each dream. I’d prefer recalling 1 full detailed ND rather than 10 NDs where I can only recall an action like “I ran down the street, met someone, talked and woke up”.
Good luck and think about starting practicing methods (WILD, DEILD)
Thank you for your replies I see there isn’t rly one simple solution to this problem, but I’ll try to do something about it, because it’s really annoying me
@Don anonymous: Most of my LD I achieve through 4+1 + WILD or DILD But thanks for your advice. This is one of the few that I achieved without any technique…I guess my SC induced it because I was reading this forum a lot before that LD. and I hope for another one day tonight
