Problems with relaxing

Hello!

Well I had a little problem: When I’m trying to relax and concentrate in my bed (For WILD or other LD techs), something is always disturbing me…
Sometimes i hear my pulse in my ears, then i feel it in my fingers, then its getting too hot and i have to move my body, then my fingers begin to itch… Those things bring me out of the cycle and are really really annoying =(

Does anybody else also have those things or even knows how to get ride of them?
Well the only thing that works on me is that I’m sometimes just too tired to get those things ^^

Best regards,
bravsein

Listen to some calm music maybe, try to not think at all.

Only tips I can give you

i went through something similar when i tried doing WILD… so i kinda gave up on that…haha I could never get relaxed enough to really fall asleep… maybe because i was concentrating too much on the actual technique…

so instead i just try and wake up in the middle of the night…which i can do pretty easily…and during the middle of the night i’m just way too tired to be distracted by everything else… i do a little FILD (when i remember of course…haha…) and it’s fairly simple to get into a lucid dream after that… good luck!!

That’s a very common beginner problem. Don’t pay attention to this, the more you pay attention to it, the more it’s disturbing. These problems will disappear with experience. Now your relaxation method is perhaps not very good, try and find the 61 points method somewhere.

Yeah I have similar problems. My main issue is that I always develop an itch somewhere that I just have to scratch. I try not to pay attention to it and try to endure the torture. It’s hard though. I mostly end up scratching it, or loose concentration due to it. I guess ‘better’ hygiene is the only aid there.

About the pulse, try not to worry about it. Accept it. Let it be a part of the process. What you could possibly do is try to relax more. Try to entirely relax before attempting WILD.

If it’s too hot perhaps you could try to open windows. Some beds I find have matresses that keep the heat very good. Perhaps put something between the sheets and you that doesn’t keep warmth?

Tiredness works for me alot of the times. I find myself not to be bothered as much if I’m very tired as if I were quite alert. Hang in there, you’ll find a way sooner or later.

The way bravsein described it fits exactly into my issues  I probably would have succeeded with WILD if I hadn’t gotten that terrible itch on my head. I itched, twenty seconds later I have an itch on my leg… It’s aweful.

Sometimes I can feel my own heartbeat, which is really annoying. I try not to think about these stuff, mostly with itching I just itch and start over, cause you aren’t coming nowhere by dealing with the torture.

which will wake you up right?

About that pulse, when I do the 61 points relaxation technique, I feel my heartbeat on each point I am concentrating on. It is actually pleasant and very relaxing, making those “area” of my body very heavy after I have felt that pulse rate.

About the itching, it is my major problem I guess. Let say I am at point 30 and my left hand itches, I use my right one to scratch it. At first, my right hand/arm is very heavy, and after the scratch, it is back to normal or “un-relaxed”. If I ever find a way to “bypass” those itching, I will let you know.

By the way, I never reached the 61th point, I always fall asleep before that last one…

Thank you all for your helpful answers! :content:

It’s good to know that many others also have those problems, and I will now try this 61 point relaxion technique.

But when it’s just a beginner-problem like Basilus West said, it’s good too ^^

About 'increasing hygiene": I know it hasn’t got anything to do with that - it’s just like: “Cool, this time there’s no itching!”, and then after some seconds it starts… =D

Hehe, yeah the itches can be awful. Last night I prepared relaxing before relaxing  I took all the time in the world getting my heart to slow down to steady rate, waited until the bed was comfortably warm, wiped the sweat until it stopped coming. Scratched the itches.

(Off topic)
Then I started to do the real relaxation. Surprisingly, after having settled, I didn’t have as many itches as I normally have. I had a few but I could just bear with them and they would subside after a minute or so. Avast, the HI was bad and hard tonight. I had some stages where I thought I was about to be thrown into dreamland. I felt strange and extremely sleepy but still very concious. Felt like I was racing through space and time and some odd geometric patterns formed. But then it was just quiet. Did RC but woke myself up.

I probably would have succeeded with my WILD last night if I hadn’t had those itches! I got to the state were I could no longer feel my bed underneath me when I got this terrible itch on my head. I pretended the itch was a dreamobject scratching my head which helped, then another itch came on my leg and I lost focus and scratched (My leg started twitching because of the itch).

If the itching is localized, it may be due to an area that has not been relaxed enough. If it’s generalized, it’s possible that your body starts to fall asleep. It’s also possible that it’s a sort of psychological block against the practice - that’s the reason why such problems disappear with a few experience. Anyhow, when itching appear, the two solutions are: precisely focusing on the itching until it disappears (you can also imagine a sort of wind, of fluid of energy blowing on this very area that makes the itching disappear) or - certainly better - focusing again and again on your practise. This second solution is certainly the best, cause it teaches you how to concentrate, it trains your attention, what is useful when you practice WILD with counting and you suddenly realize that you were thinking about anything else than counting, for instance.

I did imagine a wind blowing on the itch on my head, but that only made the itch spread over my whole head and all the sudden my head felt as if it was about to explode (I guess I was REALLY close to the dreamstate )
