Hello everyone,
I started trying out with lucid dreaming again, this time with WILD. I’m having a problem with it, though.
When i’m lying down, i can feel parts of my body feeling numb. I’m staying still, but eventually the numbness goes away and i feel myself more awake. Sometimes a muscle spasses without me moving it, and causing me to get awake from it.
What can i do about this?
Thank you for your help in advance, and tell me if you need any additional information.
Soraka.
When do you perform WILD? As in, after how many hours of sleep?
It’s generally recommended that you sleep for 4.5-6 hours before attempting WILD, as your REM phases (where you dream) are short and far between earlier on. So you dream progressively more as the night passes, which makes anything dream-related easier after several hours of sleep.
What’s your mental state when doing WILD?
WILD means doing two things simultaneously: falling asleep and staying aware. If you’re lying there trying your hardest to stay awake, then you won’t fall asleep and, as a result, you won’t dream. Try to be as relaxed as you can be, and detach yourself from your physical body. You might start with breathing calmly and then just “forgetting” about your body. Some people like to visualize stuff, others like to count in the back of their mind.
Ah, thanks for your reply.
I am trying to perform WILD when i enter the bed, because i am already relatively tired when i go to sleep, and because my sleeping pattern is random and thought that might bother it. Because at times i fall near instantly asleep and sometimes after sevral hours. And for my mental state, i’m not trying to keep myself awake. I feel calm and relaxed, i have some very calm music playing in the background (I dont know if that could be bothering it). I also start seeing some lines, which means the hypnotic images are starting to kick in. From the moment i lie in bed i start slowly breathing and counting, while saying I am asleep between the numbers.
That’s the problem… Mostly we dream in REM sleep and average person need 90 - 120 minutes to enter REM sleep. So you hit the wall because you weren’t in REM sleep and there were small chances too dream.
Even though some dreamers report that they had dreams in NREM sleep, most of us don’t remember those dreams. So you should combine WILD with WBTB…
Actually, it’s better to set your alarm for after you’ve slept for 5 hours or so.
So, like, 2-3 hours earlier than you would normally. REM periods are much longer the more you sleep. It’s even easier after 7+ hours of sleep but not everyone has that much time.
Even better way to wake up is mantra or autosuggestion. Just tell yourself that you will wake up after 5 hours and there are a pretty big chances that you achieve that.
Sometimes alarm can disturb us and wake us too much…
Okay, i have done what you told me. I set an alarm to about 7 hours after i fell asleep. I woke up, i shut off the alarm and went back to bed. I felt calm, and i only tried to keep myself awake to the point of not losing consciouness. But again a similar problem. The feeling did not get any further then numb hands/feet, slightly heavy chest and very blurry hypnotic imagary (lines moving around).
By the time i started losing my patience one and a half - two hours had passed. I dont understand if i’m doing anything wrong?
Guide about WILD says that the best position is on your back, but I found out that for me that is not true. I can start to WILD and feel the numb but no SP and I can’t fall asleep.
I WILD on my belly. It much quicker and I can hit SP and finally fall asleep…
Try different positions, because it looks like it’s the same problem that I had…
It’s probably a little easier to remain aware when you’re on your back. It’s more of an alert posture. But it’s not all important. For some people the best way to do WILD is simply in the position they’re most comfortable in. The risk being, of course, that you can fall asleep easily because that’s what you’re used to.
But eventually you do need to actually fall asleep in order to dream, so if a position is just really awkward or even uncomfortable I say just do what feels best, so long as you can retain conscious awareness. Most of my WILD successes were probably from sleeping on my side as I normally do.
It could be that you’re too concentrated on the process. Try to relax more. Be in some trance like state. You won’t fall asleep if your mind is concentrated that much.
Eventually, your body should become relaxed, the sleep paralysis should become active, and you will see HH. Try to visualise yourself in a dream body, try to move all of your thoughs from IRL body to Dream body. Once you have forgotten your IRL body, you will be in a dream (lucid dream, if you don’t lose your consciousness).
Also make sure, that if you WILD, you’ll enter the REM state immedeately. The sleep cycles are different from person to person. You should experiment with your sleep to see when you dream. Usually it’s after 4-6 hours of sleep. Therefore, this is the time when you should do WILD.
Hmm, i see. I’m not trying to be too concentrated. I feel pretty relaxed when i am lying down. I’m just concentrating a little bit on not falling asleep because that happens very quickly for me. I feel relaxed and loosened.
Also, i have a question. If i wake up when doing WBTB before the WILD. Could i for example go to the toilet, or would that ruin the process?
Thanks for the reply, it’ll help me surely now that i know that. I had a bit of trouble to get fully relaxed because i had to go to the toilet somewhat. I’ll try again for a few nights and see what results it wields
Thanks for the help!
The point of WBTB is to concentrate your mind on lucid dreaming. Don’t take any more than 10-15 minutes on that, so you don’t get too much awake. Read your DJ, read an article about lucid dreaming, you could also read this forum etc. Then go to sleep and do WILD. If you fail at WILD and fall asleep, you will have WBTB as a backup, because you may remember that you just fell asleep, which will result in a LD.
Kay, thanks for the replies.
It’s been a few days, and i have a question about something. I’m seeing something with my eyes shut, but i’m not sure if it’s HH. Instead of seeing random movements, it’s always almost instantly like a really long hall that i’m flying through, and it feels as the colors are really bright because it gives me a slight pain from the brightness. And i keep flying, sometimes it goes up, sometimes down. And the colors keep changing like a rainbow, but always with light colors. White, yellow, pink.
Could it happen to be anything? Because it always pops up around the time my limbs start feeling numb.
Soraka, that’s the beginnings of HI. It usually does start out as just colors and shaps and slowly begins to morph into other forms. It is a good sign, but that doesn’t mean you’re quite to SP or an LD yet. Still, stick with it. You’re getting closer.
