i’ve been having trouble with WILD. it isn’t that i can’t do it, but last night i laid there for about an hour before i started going numb. everytime i’ve tried, something IRL has interupted me. my question is: is it normal for WILD to take over an hour and a half?
Well. I think not. I usually get numb in like 15 minutes, and SP comes after that.
Maybe you aren’t relaxing too well, because if your muscles are tense, you won’t get the numb feeling. And you should try WILD without any interruptions.
When you wake up at night, just get up, and then go straight back to bed. Thatway you won’t wake up too much, so it should be easier to let your body fall asleep. Just be careful that you won’t let your mind to wonder. Counting your breaths might be good idea.
Good luck.
The other night, it took me about 10 minutes to hit SP, but that’s because I went from “drifting-off” to thinking “HEY I’M FALLING ASLEEP, NUUU!!” and brought my attention back…
THAT SP didn’t last for very long.
On the other hand, most nights it takes me a long time to get SP (I haven’t been very successful this or last year except for that one night I just mentioned) and it always seems to fade away. ^___^;
I’m certain, though, that I am relaxed completely. If muscles tense, I simply relax them… One main problem is my face; I tend to purse my lips and squint my eyes when I try to WILD and I constantly have to relax my face.
Haha… Another problem for me is my cats bothering me RIGHT WHEN I HIT SP. It makes me ANGRYYYY.
When you say something IRL interrupts you, do you mean something YOU’RE doing or something like bothersome pets (an outside force, so to speak)?
WILD is an awesome LD technique but and if it is taking you that long then you werent tired enough for it. Attempt it when ur tried enough to go to sleep soon but not so tired that it gives u a dead sleep.
Are you maing sure you’re pairing WILD with WBTB? WILD straight to bed generally doesn’t work.
While it isn’t exactly easy, the only way I know to reliably get into SP is to train evoking that state consciously.
First, get to know the state between waking and sleeping, specifically the fading of consciousness. It’s when you’re feeling tired and heavy and everything slowly drifts away - the important part isn’t the feeling though. Then try to -make- your consciousness fade. It’ll be easiest to train this when you’re tired but just so much that it still takes a bit of time to fall asleep if you just lay there. Try to speed that process up.
Once you’ve managed to do that, do the same as before, but stay awake while doing it. It may help to think something while doing that - for me ‘I am’ worked best and it’s a good idea to constantly alter the speed, pitch and heaviness of the thought - avoids letting it get automatic, which would make it useless. Getting the hang of it may take some time, actually it’s most likely going to take quite a while.
But once you’ve managed it, you can consciously evoke SP. It’ll still be easier if you’re tired and relaxed, but you don’t have to rely on those anymore.
I’ve been doing this for a while and I can get into SP at will this way, to a certain extent at least. There’s still a bit missing for me, so I haven’t been able to get into the dream state this way yet, but with practice it’s getting better and better. HI is already there, the body is hot and so on, so it’s definitely working.
