Ok this is my first post, and I’m not sure if this is the best place for such a question, but I’ll give it a shot.
When I was younger (about 11-12 [I’m 15 now]) I would have these strange dreams where I could control any electric light I wanted to. All I would have to do was point at the light and it would go on or off.
Do these sound like lucid dreams to you? I don’t think I ever tried anything else, like flying because the thought of complete freedom just never occured to me. I couldn’t move at will, but I could point at will. Think of it as your legs not working - you’re on autopilot but your arms work fine, and whenever you point at a light, it switches to on/off.
These were the most vivid dreams I’ve ever had, I was able to remember pretty much the whole dream from start to finish when I woke up, which was a first for me really. Is it possible that I was in a very weak state of lucidity? Such a state that I was a lot more aware, but in only a tiny bit more control?
The thing I find extremely strange is during my research into this topic, I found that lights not working is an extremely common dreamsign because the part of the brain responsible for these things isn’t working while you’re asleep? If that’s true, how could I see lights go on/off? I’m starting to think I was dreaming of having these dreams, and that they never happened or something.
I’m really confused about these, probably moreso than I should be. I never thought I’d be able to explain them, but now that I’ve found a whole lucid dreaming community on the net, I have a chance to know just what was happening.
Okay, you had these dreams along time ago, so this question may be a little hard to answer, but do your best:
Did you know you were dreaming in those dreams? If so, then you were definatly lucid. If not, then you weren’t. If you can’t remember, then we don’t know.
As for the light thing - that is actually all down to the placebo effect. People have been told that lights don’t work in dreams, so when they try them in their LD’s, they don’t work (cos they expect them not to).
I (and others) have had lights work fine in LD’s. As long as you expect the switch to turn on the light, it will.
Ah, thankyou. I’ve just now noticed there is a big thread for questions like this, so I apologize for posting in the wrong place.
Does it qualify as a LD if you recognize the dream as one you’ve had before? To explain that better, they’d always start the same way, which was me in my room going to get a drink from the kitchen. I’d just point at the light for no particular reason (not knowing it would turn on) and it would go on. I’d always be surprised, and try it on other things. Any light, even from a light-house, I could control.
For this reason, I’d always recognize the dream and sort of know what was going to happen, but it would never deviate from the original dream.
Come to think of it, I doubt I was lucid - just in a very strange dream that happened about 5 times the exact same way.
Ide you were not lucid but those are cool dreams nevertheless…
You dont have to be lucid to have great dreams.
Now that you are aware of lucid dreaming you might be able to do much more than just pointing at a light and having it turn on/off, if you become aware you are dreaming.
