I remember hearing here that this was impossible, or near impossible. Well, this morning, I had what was quite possibly the clearest and longest LD I’ve ever had. I don’t remember a lot of it, sadly, but I spent most of the time just seeing what I could do in an LD-- since this was one of the first times I’ve felt as clear and in control of it.
I decided to test to see what people were talking about when they said you couldn’t read. I was in the kitchen, so I opened the pantry to look at things. At first, they all did look like strange glyphs, until I realized it was in fact English. I was able to read it, and the letters were as clear as anything else you’d see on a cereal box, although the phrases and sentences themselves were very odd (another thing I cannot remember, sadly)
So does anyone know if this is out of the ordinary or what? I also remember the thing about clocks generally being messed up-- I have had a digital clock be very messed up (I used it as an RC, though, so I was somewhat expecting it to be).
Well it was normal. There are two kind of people: Those with changing dreams, who can’t read becasue the letters looks not normal, and those with your kind of reading. Regardless of which type you are, you mostly cannot remember the actualy phrases, or most of them, unless you try particulary hard.
Well yeah. You can read. I have read too, in my first LD too. I read donald duck and I saw them clearly as the bright sun. But I don’t really remember what they said, but I remember the plot and the story of it.
So yeah. That wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.
There is also that nice kind of dream in which you recall having looked at weird, asemic patterns and reading through them. Like a big bunch of sketch traces in which you recall being able to see a phrase, as if the traces were some kind of alphabet.
Don’t any of you have the problem where if you look at a written word too long in a dream, it starts changing into another word completely? This happens to me with numbers, too. Knowing this, I try to read VERY quickly in a lucid dream and then immediately wake up so I won’t forget the word and/or number as it was first presented to me (BEFORE it gets a chance to morph!).
Feba, it sounds normal. For me text can behave in different ways. Sometimes as you described, sometimes it looks sort of Russian. And various other oddities can happen. My alarm clock has displayed text messages. Sometimes the text changes really fast, like the letter-places are slots in a slotmachine. Once the text stayed still so I could read just the part that I was looking at. That time it was actual words. Other times, it’s just random letters.
al, yes, that happens to me too. But I don’t try to read fast, I think it looks so cool I just stare at it. It makes sense to me too, to do that, because I don’t expect the text to be any more interesting than the visual effect. But that’s just me.
when i read in LDs it are mostly signboards(meaning oversized , easy to read stuff) or the like , and even those tend to change and shift between one meaning and the other
I had a few FA’s today one of which my cell phone was ringing(not really) so I woke up to it(not really) and looked at it and it said “Jake cell” so i thought my friend was calling. Then I fell back asleep and had another FA where I thought I was late for my lab.
I’ve had a couple of dreams where I read writing. Most of them I could only remember one or two words. I think I’ve had 2 where I’ve remembered full sentences though, and I remember that they weren’t gibberish, they were relevant to what was going on at the time. I’ve also had one where I read a string of numbers, and remembered it when I woke up. For some reason I thought it was really important and remembered it throughout the day.
I have read only once in my dreams and it was a regular dream. IN FACT, from that reading is that i have this USERNAME which was what i read ‘‘Dreams=Aventura de Sueno’’ then i saw a lot of japanese symbols.
