i woke up thinking “you’ve got to be kidding me,” after this happened. i was talking to somebody on my cell phone in my dream, and they asked me what time it was. i looked at my cell phone [which has a digital clock on it] and it actually had a normal time on it, not some jumbled up symbols! it said 7:22 PM, and i even looked at a wall clock in the location i was in during my dream and it also said 7:22 PM! how is this possible!?[/code]
There’s no guarantee that any reality check will work all the time. Sometimes they just don’t work. There’s nothing you can do about it except use it more in real life and hope it works in your next dream.
By the way, if while doing the check in real life you don’t genuinely question reality and instead you just do it out of habit you’ll fail.
so reality checks aren’t bulletproof. i also remember being able to breathe under water in a dream, but i didn’t become lucid-- i just thought it was pretty nifty that i could breathe and disregarded my revelation.
This happend to me in a way. I plugged my nose. I could breath! Then i looked in a mirror and noticed that i had a third nostril… It sort of worked though because I got a very low level of lucidity after that.
The idea is to recheck.
You were not aware of the possibility of being in a dream and therefore looking at your digital watch will probably show a normal time, as that is what you expect it to. If you were to look again, it would probably change. The thing is to consciously do the RC. It has no use if it is done by mistake.
You see so many impossible things happen in a dream yet you still give all sorts of absurd, irrational explanations and fail to understand the reason is you are dreaming.
get used to doing an RC at certain circumstances.
whatever works for u…
When you see a certain object (glass, water, windows, bottles, whatever…), when you do something (go through doorways etc…), whatever you want basically…
The thing is to seriously question the reality.
Doing RCs is more than checking you are not dreaming, it is about getting the habit to question the surroundings. When the mind gets used to it, you will get lucid. I have a friend that started doing RCs intensively, almost every 10-15 minutes, while seriously looking around asking himself if this is “real”, and after 2 days he started having LDs without doing RCs at all in the dreams, he would simply realize when the dream started that he is dreaming.
The mind gets used to checking on the environment and that’s what you need to get lucid.
I just remembered a RC that could prove very useful to you. Try recollecting your steps as many times as you can every day. Do it every 5 minutes if you can. Think, how did I get here? Then retrace your steps, ok, i woke up, i went to the cafe with my friend and then to the beach and after that I drove here…
See what I mean?
this will make your mind constantly question the reality.
Try everything and see what works best for you.
This is what i do… it could be very helpful… i think it´s th best RC there is and it has never failed me and I´ve used it for maaany years.
Just look for anything solid and try to traspass it with your finger. that´s it.
It´s great because in real life when doing the RC… it doesn´t take away any time at all, and it´s very easy to do, and everywhere you are there will always be something solid around you… either a wall… a desk… whatever…
