Reality Checks taking forever to work!

Hey guys and gals! It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here! Okay, I’ve been an LDer for about 4 years now. I have been having one heck of a dry spell so I wanted to get back into the swing of things. I have had dozens of lucid dreams in the past, but I wanted something more "sure-“fire” to get one, i.e. doing reality checks. Well, I have been doing RCs now for almost 3 weeks. I have no trouble remembering my dreams (especially when I get lucid), and my reality check is taking FOREVER to leak into my danged dreams!  My reality check is basically whenever I walk through a door, I do a text or clock RC. How long does it usually take to get RCs to get into your dreams do you think? How long does it take you personally? Thanks so much in advance!

I think that differs from person to person… May I ask you, are you walking through doors or do texts alot in your dreams?

Yep. That’s def one of my dream signs.

I’d recommend you do, a different type of RC
one that doesn’t require something else

like do the finger count or the breathing through your nose check
it may work better
:cheesy:
you should have at least 3 different RC’s
it helps a lot

I agre with chase
and also, make sure you are really asking yourself if this is a dream when you are performing a reality check and not just looking at the clock to see its not.

I’ll totally try that! Thank you! Btw, would counting on your hand be an effective RC? I mean, wouldn’t you count five fingers in a dream or is it almost always more than five? It just seems like it wouldn’t work, but I’m doing that RC anyway, dangit! lol

The idea with looking at hands I believe is that the hand will be different to how it is in reality. Sometimes that involves having more than 5 or less than five fingers, the texture, colour or shape of the hand can also change in a dream.

Ohhhhhhh. I gotcha. I guess I’ll need to pay attention to that too when doing my RCs.

Okay, a question for an RC. I want to add another one. I want to do that one where you just look around and see if there is anything out of the ordinary. When in WL, would I have to say something like, “Ah, a door, that’s normal. A window…that looks normal…” etc. That seems like it would be a pain to look at every single thing and determine if it’s normal or not. I would think that once that slipped into my dreams, that I would look around and feel like everything was okay because everything I saw in RL is fine. But I was also thinking that maybe doing the RC would heighten my awareness and I really would know if I were dreaming no matter what. I hope you understand what I’m getting at. :help: Thanks in advance!

When doing a reality check make sure you’re really questioning reality. If you expext real life results when you do the reality check then you’ll get real life results in your dreams. You should probably use the hand or nose checks too.

Yep, Stevenscar’s pretty much got it. When you RC it can’t just be a cursory “everything’s real” or “I’m not dreaming”. They need to be serious tests wherein you genuinely look to see if you are dreaming or not; yes you can “tell” it’s RL but if you ask the question seriously IRL then it will be serious in a dream. If you just go through the motions and come to the obvious conclusion you will probably make the same mistake in the dream.
