Can I sort of “remember” names or things I have forgotten? For example, I forgot the email adress I used to register for a game called Maple Story. Could I search for the name in an LD? Just curious, thanks in advance.
You could do that, but suppose you manage to come up with some email address… how can you be sure that it’s the right one? Dreams are no realms of rational thought, and they’re extremely susceptible to your own expectations and associations with waking life. Though I think it can be done, there’s a much bigger chance that you come up with something which is the result of your own biased mind at the moment of the rediscovery, even though you might not have been conscious of that at the moment. If you become lucid and search after your forgotten email address, you’re already constantly influencing the outcome with every step you’re taking. I think the best chances of getting some valuable result is to keep your mind as open and clear as possible. Don’t have ANY expectations and don’t speculate about it. Perhaps meditation might increase the chances of getting accurate results.
im not fully agree with you mystic. i think you can reach things such as memories via lucid dreams. dreams are, after all, an highaway to our subconscious. if you’ll come with the right attitude, and you will believe you will be able to do it, so you will. because technically and scientifically it can be done.
The question remains: how do you know that the information you received is accurate in waking life? If you’ve had a LD you probably know how little it takes to influence dreams by mere thought or subconscious expectations. Imo, the right attitude would be to have an almost blank mind without any trace of associations with waking life and expectations about what will happen. This means you must be able to fully disconnect yourself from your waking life and the whole mental model you’ve created there to survive in that world. That seems to be so difficult to achieve…
Don’t get me wrong though… I do think one can get access to memories through dreams, but those will always be colored by your mental blueprint at that moment in the dream. Waking memories can only be understood in its context, being waking life. Likewise, dream memories can only be understood in the dream world. If you shift them, like trying to recover waking memories while in a dream, or trying to recover dream memories while in waking life, you’ll always come up with inaccurate memories because they had to be shifted and translated from one world to another. But you can work on that. As you can improve your dream recall and improve its accuracy, so you can also improve your waking life memory recall while in a dream. It’s possible yes, but only with an aweful lot of practice.
