Recovering my RCs

As of late entirely by my own lazy fault i have made my RCs a lot more ineffective by not actually focusing on them a lot and only doing them at random moments lots to the point where they are more of a predictable habit than anything else and they never show in my dreams and on the shocking occasion they do they dont work well or at all.

Generally i simply make sure my hands are fine (count them and move them as well as i count for when i cant see them and still want to count) and check they arent claws or anything, then i move onto my nose and hold it and check to see if i can still breathe before finishing with closing one eye then the other to see if my nose is still there or has changed. I round it off with “My name is X and i will reality check and lucid dream tonight”

The whole process has become almost a chore sometimes when i worry about people seeing me do it or simply being distracted.

Should i change RCs or dump one or two of them? or something else, lately after noticing this problem i have been focusing on them a lot more, ill still try to see if this helps but i think if i can tackle this early i might have more success.

Any tips?

Moved from General Lucidness. :dragon:

It’s great you noticed it and are concerned about it. I don’t know about you but when I use reality checks I don’t like to be repetitive or automatic as a zombie, for I am afraid this unwanted behavior would go on to my dreams. I always try to make it varied and to stop what I am doing as much as possible and probably you could have 2 or 3 standard reality checks and another random one to make things varied.

Yeah lately i try as hard as i can to focus on what should be wrong with me, i took the wrong approach last time and now wish and hope and try to see 15 fingers or crystals in my palm or maybe no arms at all.

I guess thats the main thing to do really, put in the effort, i only had another LD recently after a month or so of nothing so thar does get you down a little. Oh well i just got Exploring The World of Lucid Dreaming by LaBerge so that will definately help.

I use the hand and nose reality checks too, and a little jump if no one is around. But I do them somewhat randomly, and checking my hands is the only thing I can really do inconspicuously at work. I work with mentally ill people, so it’s kind of important to avoid random bizarre behaviors there.

So far, I am still not remembering to RC in my dreams. I’m the kind of person who generallly has to plug away at practicing something for a long time to see the benefits. Good thing I’m not in any hurry

True eh, it is a bit awkward with RCs sometime, i guess in the end though all thats important is getting the logic systems in the brain firing again to recognise what is going on and interperet (correctly) why things are the way they are. I always used to have a problem seriously questioning whether i was dreaming or not but its getting easier now.

From what I understood, you are supposed to find major (or minor) dream signs that occur regularly in your dreams and do a reality check whenever you see or recall one. As an example, if you always see a black car in your dreams, you should make a reality check when you see a black car; thus when dreaming you realize you are dreaming.
But I’m really just a beginner, you shouldn’t take my advice too seriously.
