Reliable RC?

Hi!

I started out doing RC by pushing my fingers through my palm of the other hand, but this does not always work. In my FDILD and first LD, I did this and it was unsuccessful. Luckily I took up pinching my nose and breathing.

Unfortunately, this new method can sometimes get in the way, as I have awful allergies.

What RCs do you guys use? What are the most reliable RCs that are easy to do in public?

Thanks!

I pinch my nose and try to breath. Always worked.

Well really, the only RC I use is the nose RC. I have allergies when I’m home too, cause of my cats. However, I still do the RC if my nose isn’t extremely plugged or doesn’t feel like it’s going to cause issues if I do so. Sometimes in public I’ll do it, but not often, since I usually forget.

I don’t do any other RCs though, so I can’t help you there with any that work all the time. :meh:

Cool!
Same. Has anyone tried rubbing their hands together in a dream?

That’s more to stabilize the dream, rather than as an RC. Some use it, some don’t, but if you’re looking to use it as an RC… If you can figure out how to use it as such, great, but I don’t see how that would work.

Counting fingers - there are never 5 of them. Everyone seem to have a RC that is unique for them. I first tried finger through hand and it didn’t work then my friend suggested counting fingers on one hand. It has always worked for me.

I actually also have a problem with RCs. For example, they say reading in a dream is a good one, but for me the text in my dreams is always perfectly legible and stable. Same with the clocks, i’ve noticed. They don’t change… It’s kind of weird. I don’t know why it’s like that for me.
I’ve been lucid a few times, but it was never due to RCs. Maybe cause i haven’t found a good one too?

By the way, about plugging your nose when you have allergies - have you tried plugging your nose and your mouth at the same time? Cause even if you couldn’t breathe through your nose anyway, you can always breathe through your mouth also.

I use a very personal RC : I always have 2 dices in my left pocket, when I want to do an RC I throw them, look at the number I got, then I look somewhere else and I look at the dices again to see if the number or anything else (colour, shape) changed. It has always worked very well so far. And when I’m in public, I just don’t throw them but I make them roll in my hands discreetly and then I do the same as described previously. I also look at my hands : sometimes my knight ring is not there in my dreams …
Anyway I guess a personal RC is likely to work better because you use something especially made to detect dreams (in my case, the dices), so I think your mind is more convinced that it’ll work.

I hope it helps !

You should check the wiki book on lucid dreaming…!!!
There’s a tabulation of reality checks and its reliability and other stuffs!!!

I suggest always doing a combination; always. I usually check my fingers, and as one poster has already said, there never seem to be five of them, and they are distorted.

However, sometimes, I do have five, or it is hard to tell at first, and I continue on in the dream, unaware. So, I check my phone (Usually dim and blurry in dreams), I check my hands (Usually have extra fingers and distorted digits), and make sure I know where I am, and how I got there.

Many people complain if you keep doing the same one over and over, you get used to it, and your mind adjusts to it, and makes that RC obsolete. So keep it mixed, and keep it lucid. :content:

Here is everything that I do:

  1. Attempt to fall through walls
  2. Count the fingers on my hands
  3. Attempt to stick my fingers through my hand
  4. I have three moles on my left arm that make an right triangle if you were to connect them with lines, if they’re gone or have moved or are moving, I know I’m dreaming.
  5. Also, I try levitation

Wow! You guys are great!

Dablooey, interesting that you mention the moles! I have two on my hand, why not use them?

Along with the nose pinch and finger through the palm, I will look at them. This is very discrete and should work!

Thanks!

Finger through palm and reading RCs have never worked for me. I have stuck my arm through a door as an RC which worked though…

Personally, the only RCs that work for me are the nose RC and counting my fingers. Usually if my fingers do look the same, I’ll count again. Quite often in dreams, I lose count. This has always worked without fail for me, though.

The nose RC… I don’t do it much IRL for nearly identical reasons to ZRVera. This one works (almost) all the time for me.

Another that I’ve heard is to try and look down at the end of your nose. It wont be there in a dream.
I’m yet to try this out myself, but I’ve heard its reliable.
Whatever works best for you

I’ve heard it work for some and not for others. If you expect to see a nose there, there is no reason your SC can’t create it. However, if you expect the RC to show you’re dreaming…

The fingers through the hand has never worked for me!

but the plug nose one always works for me but sometimes i wake up

Actually it’s an interesting one with the dice. But somehow it probably takes a long time to form a habit. I once tried it with my ring which i wear at all times, but it never carried over to my dreams. Actually, no RC ever did. Which is why I’m now trying the lucid living thing (where you keep checking “what was i just doing?”) like a hundred times during the day. Wonder how long it’ll take it to carry over to my dreams… However i’ve noticed it boosted my recall to 3 dreams a night in just one day (cause you need to keep remembering your day all the time)

I always have luck with pinching my nose, counting fingers, and closing one eye and looking at my nose!

I always wear my watch, so I was using that as an RC. Yesterday I did it in an ND though, I checked my watch two or three times and it looked completely normal. It did change time, but it changed logically enough for me to not realize I was dreaming.

I guess I’ll have to find some new ones. I was using falling through walls, but sometimes it’s too troublesome to find a wall to lean on.

I think the one’s I’ll use are pinching my nose and counting my fingers. They seem the easiest and most reliable.

yeah, the one with the watch always looked a little fishy to me too. i mean time changes in real life as well
