Just read about this in my Psych. Text.
REM Rebound- Its basically when you are woken up just before each of your REM cycles, for a whole night or multiple nights.
Then when you are finally able to sleep undisturbed, you make up for REM sleep lost to a certain extent ( Much like what happens when you get too little sleep in general)
Anyway, found it interesting,
wondering if anyone had ever experienced it,
cause it would be cool to become lucid in an insanely long REM period wouldn’t it?
This kind of happened to me but i wasn’t lucid i was sick and took a nap and all of a sudden i woke up for no reason for bout 2-3 hours wheni went back to sleep i had an insanely long vivid dream, prob one of the longest i had Im not sure if it was what u said tho
The mention of any drug-like substance is not allowed, as the forum rules.
Also, I’ve observed that for most, the real hindrance to the lenght of a dream is DR, not the dream lenght itself. An awful lot of things can happen in 1 hour of dreams, believe me and remembering them can be a bigger problem than actually living them
I’ve had REM rebound before. Quite recently actually.
Yeah, it will increase the length of your dream, but remembering it is a whole other story. Though if you have pretty good recall to begin with, more power to you.
Some days ago I was with my family driving back to our home (close to) Oslo from the very South-East of Austria. Along the way we visitied people. Even when we had a “proper resting stop” at a family’s house, I decided to not sleep… I did not bother. The drive went by fairly quickly despite it being sooo long in duration–I kept dosing off due to boredom (I suppose); I had some dreams, but could hardly remember anything.
Anyway. The point is that when we arrived at home, about four o’clock in the morning, I went to bed and had some of the most amazing dreams I have had in years!
I had four or five consecutive LDs of great vividness, and to top that–they were pretty tightly connected to one another. (Following this I also had other sweet dreams, though not LDs.)
I just had to put this night in my dream journal… and I was disappointed to see that it was my first entry in months
Yay for REM-rebound! … I thought about it the following day, and even though I very much enjoyed it, I do not think I will intentionally try to upset my sleep during regular nights.
