How do I remember more dreams? The only time I remember a dream is when I wake up in the middle of the night and go back to sleep. I then remember the dream from that, but never from any ones earlier.
If possible, wake yourself up, instead of having someone else or an alarm clock wake you. Getting a good night’s sleep also helps too. That’s why my dream recall is severly impaired on weekdays.
I definitely agree with the getting a good night’s sleep - I don’t usually remember a massive amount on the typical weekday where I have to quickly get up.
If you use an alarm, try setting it about 10-20 minutes (or even an hour - find what works for you) earlier, so you can wake up and try to remember anything from in the night.
The night before, visualise yourself waking up and writing down your dreams, paying attention to things like the feel of the pen, the smell of the room, etc. Then firmly tell yourself that in the morning, that’s what you will be doing.
Or, just start writing as things come into your head, and you may be surprised at what you come up with.
Yea, I’ve had a few instances where as I’m making breakfast or brushing my teeth, a memory will come back to me, but Ill say to myself “wait a minute, that never happened, so it must have been a dream”.
I would say just keep doing what you are doing and your dream recall will improve with practice.
=> Tell yourself before you go to sleep that you will wake up after every dream and that you will remember your dreams.
=> Wake up in the night and write down any dreams you remember in your DJ. If you have trouble getting back to sleep if you stay up too long then just write down a few phrases to trigger your memory in the morning. Do that every time you wake in the night.
=> In the morning write down any dreams you remember in as much detail as possible.
In time you will find that you will start to remember more dreams. Practice every night for best results.
Also make sure you:
=> get adequate sleep. At least 7-8 hrs
=> avoid alcohol and most drugs as the tend to kill REM (dreaming sleep).
=> Don’t give up !!! Things will improve if you stay with it.
Most of the times I get too lazy to get up , get a pen and write my dream … then I forget some of them …
Well there are many solutions to this. You can keep a pen and DJ next to your bed. You can even get one of those light pens so you don’t even have to turn on a light, you can use a tape recorder and record your dreams and write them down later.
These are just a few things you can do. Be creative and you will find a solution that works for you.
