Sad day for Pink floyd fans...

I just found out today, that Syd Barrett the founder of PF died last week. Shine on you crazy diamond!!

I’m a Pink Floyd fan, and I dont really mind at all. I mean, he was the guy that started it all… But the greatest music they made was without him  The Syd Barrett era wasn’t my Era really, I preferred the Gilmour/Waters/Masons/Wright era (Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, etc).

I agree with Tweak. Syd basically screwed himself with all of the drugs he took. I do have a bike, however. I could ride it if I like, I’d lend it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

Thats the thing about PF, I never really got into Syds music, but if it wasnt for syd I dont think we would have Dark side of the moon, Wish you were, or The wall. My favorite was from Dark side- The final cut. Then after Roger split I got more into his music then I did Pink Floyd without Waters. Although I did like Division bell

That’s like my favourite song from the Barrett era, haha.

Edit: 9d-issue, we would have The Wall (since that was about the wall between PF and the public), just not DSOTM and WYWH, since those were “directed” to Barrett (Well, DSOTM was about the dark side of men, which was inspired by Barrett).

Syd was the best. His lyrics are supreme, way better than the recent ones, and his guitar was simply stunning, amazing, awesome. I don’t miss him, though, because he was gone long before he died.

My favourite from him is Dominoes, although Bike is definately also very good.

Has anyone else heard On An Island, David Gilmour’s solo album? Its totally laid back and relaxed; it is fantastic.

Yae Ive been wanting to get “On an island” Alot of Gilmours stuff is like you said laid back.

But still guys, it’s PINK FLOYD! Anyone that dies that was once part of the band is sad! I don’t care who you are. He was still pink floyd if he didn’t make good music or not, regardless.

“I’ve got a bike, you can ride it if if you like, it’s got a basket, a bell and some things to make it look good - I’d lend it to you if I could but I borrowed it”, preferred over poetic stuff like… Time? Money? Us and Them? Eclipse even?

Don’t think so. Imho, his lyrics were ok, and his guitar was amazing, but the more recent Pink Floyd was 10 times better.

Edit: Although his Solo-album is very cool. :content:

it wasnt until a long time after I got into the more recongized Pink Floyd music, dsotm or wywh that I began to listen to the early floyd work more and began to enjoy it immensely, songs such as Astronomy Dominei or Intersteller Overdrive are just fun to listen to.

Early floyd has many underapreciated moments that I still listen to even when I rarley listen to the more “classic” floyd albums, Ive just heard the more famous ones far too many times to still enjoy them as much as I should.
