I have heard from alot of my friends that when they lay in bed at night to go to sleep (more than likely to have a lucid dream)
They have problems with going to sleep and can lay there for hours trying to sleep with no success. I know I have done it before
I lay in bed with my eyes closed and the next thing I know… ooops it’s 3:00 AM? Ooopsies I thought i went to bed at 10:00 PM? Where did all that time in between go? (lol)
Its happened to me a number of times and I know my friends do it, so I can bet a lot of you out there do it too
I have a simple solution to getting a good nights rest for those of you with this problem…
Seratonin for those of you that are without a clue, is a chemical released in your brain to wake you up. Its a “feel-good” chemical, witch makes you feel awake and alert. Seratonin helps your brains nuerons transmit signals more freely and aids your brain to function more affectivly.
Melatonin is quite the opposite, it is a chemical released to get you ready to sleep and makes you feel tired. It stimulates the immune system and starts that “refreshing and healing process” needed for a good nights rest.
Seratonin is released when the suns rays hits your eyes. The melatonin from the night before is broken down and seratonin is created for the day, where as at the end of the day seratonin is broken down into melatonin. Melatonin, as you could have guessed is made when in the dark, at night.
Why does this matter?
Keeping you seratonin and melatonin levels in balance is important. If you have a good amount of seratonin during the day but you dont give it time to convert it to melatonin… uh oh… your going to go to bed with seratonin on the brain with will keep you awake
Some can argue that… wait… Im in the dark when I try to go to sleep wont it convert to melatonin then? The answer is most definatley yes. but you are indeed laying there trying to go to sleep eh? so when it converts into melatonin it is used right then and there… making it uneffective this will have you laying there restless and awake. In other words you will be wonders what happened to the 5 hours between 10:00 PM and 3:00 AM… assuming that 10:00 is your bedtime and assuming that you will have notuced that you are in fact not getting any sleep by 3:00 AM eh? But anyway… one of the many reasons why people do not have time to allow there seratonin to be broken down and melatonin be made is ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING!
We wake up, we get a good amount of sunlight but we go inside and we either
A. Stare at a computer screen the wee hours before we lie down to sleep
or
B. Stare at a T.V right before we go to sleep
this is not such a good thing to do, we dont allow ourselves to get enough darkness to get the needed Melatonin for a good nights rest. Of course Computers and T.V’s arent the only problems, or sources of artificial light… eh?
we do have lamps and house lights hmm? And many of us like to keep our houses lit up until we go to bed eh? Sitting in the bright lights of your house will not allow you to break down your seratonin effectivly.
WHAT DO I DO?
well… you sit in relative darkness for an hour or two right before you go to bed? And also make sure you get enough sunlight in the day!
THAT IS SILLY! SITTING IN THE DARK?
No its not! Its a natural process! how so? Well, back then in the day, we had no electricity, and no artificial lighting…
The sun goes up and seratonin is made, the sun goes down, and melatonin is made! Its quite natural
See back the when the sun went down… it was dark… we didnt have any lights except for candles and campfires so the seratonin and melatonin levels for people, was in balance back then
Today we have all these bright lights to stare at witch throws off our “system”
I believe that there are drugs used to boost your seratonin and melatonin levels eh? If we know this… (what I have just told you) Doesnt this make them useless? If you know how to keep your seratonin and melatonin levels in check… then you really dont need these kinds of drugs eh? Well, correct me if im wrong, there may be some kind of problem where they may be needed, I have no idea…
Let’s think here for a minute… In the morning your seratonin and melatonin, is… well, balanced you have a nearly equal amount of seratonin and melatonin… so if you have enough melatonin to put you asleep decently, and… enough seratonin to keep you alert decently… Does anyone see where I am going? eh? would this aid the WILD technique?
my advice? Try lucid dreaming with WILD in the morning?
maybe thats why we often have lucid dreams in the morning before we wake up? when the sun hit our eyes, we make seratonin and we are dreaming at the time… so we start to become lightly alert and start to become more aware? << I am just thinking here…and really guessing… I may be way off, and this might make no sense at all… eh?
Anyway, Laying in bed restless is not the only problem caused by an imbalance of serotonin and melatonin
If you sit in your house all day with no sunlight, and then you try to go to sleep that night, with out the proper amount of serotonin to make melatonin, you wil wake up Very Cranky…
This might why we wake up some days and… ROAR!!!
Get cranky…
Any way, If you have no idea what im talking about, or you have a question, just do whatever, and… I’ll do whatever and we’ll get something worked out eh?
I hope those of you with the problem of laying in bed restlessly, have learned something today, this may not solve your problem if you have insomnia, or something else… Nut I hope I help someone out there
In short…
- Make sure you get enough sunlight in the day…1 to 2 hours?
- Make sure you get enough darkness at night… 1 to 2 hours?
do something like stargaze if you feel stupid sitting in the dark eh? well, what ever you want… I dont know
