Intro
I’ve read a bit on shared dreaming, which seems like a real nice idea. The only problem with such a thing is the difficulty required in such an endeavor. That, and not all people believe it’s possible.
In an attempt to figure out the ways in which such a thing could be possible we must consider OBEs and the like. A shared dream is a sort of “spiritual bond” between the two (more?) people in the dream, in which they experience the same dreamscape. So, an OBE must be required to reach the same metaphysical location of the dreamscape. This means one brain acts like the host server and the other like someone using a client to access the dreamscape on another brain. My theory has a more physical connection that ties theminds together.
The problem
Having a good guess as to what part of the brain “controls” dreams, thanks to another topic here, we can theorize that the dreamscape of a specific person’s brain exists on a metaphysical level within the brain, and is accessed by functions of the brain. If this is true, I believe shared dreaming could very well be possible, though not easily through current methods.
The theory
With knowledge of what part of the brain is required to access the dreamscape, I believe an implant placed at the back of the neck connected to the brain would allow communication between the brain and other brains. This would work much like a direct connection between two computers at first, connecting the two brains with something like an ethernet cable, allowing free communication between the two of them.
This does present a few issues, though…I will discuss them later.
I remember someone posting something about believeing it would be possible to “reprogram” your own brain, using similar verbal commands to the ones I’m sure we are all familiar with, such as “increase lucidity.” This further implies that the brain works similarly to a computer, which for this theory is necessary. The brain processes information in a very similar way as a computer, but at the same time it is different from any computer we have managed to create thusfar. This would make learning how to “program” a human being, or any other complex organism, a rather difficult task. This means until we have the knowledge of the basic programming of the mind all communication between connected brains will be fully open, which could lead to trauma caused by another mind interfering with yours.
Advantages to dreaming over internet protocol
To get off that, let’s go to the advantages to shard dreaming with this method. With this type of shared dreaming it would be possible for couples to experience things they never have before, a M/F couple could be F/F for a night, or one could sprout tentacles, maybe even have a few more people in it. This would also allow forms of entertainment, other than sexual. Let’s assume for this paragraph the coding of the mind is now as common knowledge as how to run a PC, You could have one centralized brain act as a server (It may actually be possible with a server, assuming the coding of the brain is constant) and other people connect to this brain through ip, by having knowledge of “mind-code” it would be possible for the host-mind to protect itself from any kind of trauma created by other people in the dreamscape, and maybe even limit their abilities. This means a single mind could create a world for other people to connect to during their dreams, in a relatively safe manner.
problems
Issues present with this theory
- Lack of willing guinea pigs
- Mind-code is still an unknown programming language that could very well differ from person to person.
- Mind-hackers are a subject I’d rather stay away from. ^^;
- I doubt any lab would do research like this in the near future.[/b]
