Hi all, I’m new to the forum. I used to be heavily into lucid dreaming many years ago. But life changes and I just couldn’t find the energy or time to practice as much as I did when I was younger.
I thought I might as well post a cool sleep paralysis initiated lucid dream I had last night. It has kind of rekindled the “wow” factor of the lucid dream world and how special and unique the experience is.
I was very tired yesterday so I decided to take a nap in the evening. I lay on my back in bed and just allowed myself to quickly drift off to sleep. I noticed that the patterns I see when my eyes are closed were very strong this time. At one point I felt my whole body becoming weaker and weaker, to the point where I felt somewhat panicky. I tried to call out “help” but I could hardly get the words out. This was the beginning of a sleep paralysis episode, which I haven’t had in some time now.
Now begins the many full-fledged sleep paralysis episodes. They must have happened half a dozen times, I’m sure. I woke up lying in my bed, unable to move, but I recognized that I was actually awake within the dream world and looking out at a copy of my room. It looked very realistic. I decided to try and pull myself out of my bed like I’ve done many times before, but, as usual, it was very difficult, as if my body was glued to the bed. I tried various techniques such as rolling, but didn’t have much luck. I finally figured out that I could pull myself up to the edge of my bed and then let myself kind of fall off the edge going forward. That would usually get me loose. Once free, I walked out of the room into the hallway and usually didn’t make it much further than that before instantly finding myself lying back in bed paralyzed.
At one point I managed to get down the front stairs. I wanted to go outside, but I decided instead of unlocking and opening the dream door that - since I’m in a dream - I’ll just jump right on through it and hopefully arrive outside. (I don’t think I should have done this since I hadn’t LD’d for a while and these tricks can often end the dream.) So I leaped through the front door and - instantly - I was back in bed, paralyzed, looking out at my dream room. Oops.
I just couldn’t get out of the house this time. It was actually kind of funny, but a bit frustrating having to keep struggling to get out of the paralysis over and over again.
I also made it to the living room where there were two people sleeping under separate blankets. I could not see their heads as they were completely under. I rolled back the first blanket and it was some kind of humanoid “monster”, but I wasn’t frightened as I knew it was a dream. I said to myself (not paraphrased), “Let’s see what the next blanket reveals,” and it was some other kind of weird entity. They just lay there doing nothing so I just shrugged them off. I didn’t get much further and found myself back in SP again.
Now, here’s where it gets “spooky.” I lay in the paralysis state once more. Suddenly I heard loud footsteps walking down the hallway towards my room. It sounded like someone very large wearing boots. Yet I knew nobody was home. Interestingly, I didn’t get scared, since I’ve had other hallucinations during SP and learned not to let myself get frightened. My hallway is not long so the person should have arrived at my door by now – or they were just standing in one place stomping. The walking got louder and louder and then, suddenly, the sound morphed into the sound of… my cooling fan. I often keep a fan turned on next to my bed to keep cool. I believe my brain was trying to make sense of what the heck that fan noise was and turned it into someone walking. I thought that was neat.
While I was lying in bed, I remembered from before that if I tried to look at my limbs, they would appear a filmy purple translucent colour. I’ve discovered that many other people see the same thing when they try. This time I pulled my right hand up in front of my face and I could see my door through it - even down to the details. But there was a very faint white ghostly trace around my arm and hand. I did the same thing with my legs and saw the same thing, except I could faintly make out the purple sweats I was wearing in bed. (I was wearing a short-sleaved shirt so I had bare arms.)
During the last SP episode, I lay there and could hear someone unlocking the door to come into the house. I instinctively knew I was listening to the real world this time so I decided to wake up, and, sure enough, the person had indeed come into he house.
That’s about all of the experience. Hope it wasn’t too boring.
