I still haven’t had an LD, but I’ve had a few weird dreams that I will explain. Pretty much, in the dream, I think I’m lucid, and I do all the things I think I would do when I’m lucid. When I get up, however, I realize that the dream actually wasn’t lucid. I know it’s not lucid because I realize I wasn’t actually choosing what I do, just like in a ND. It’s like my SC can’t actually accept the concept if Lding, so it makes up a scenario that I would do if I was LDing to make me still non-lucid, but in the dream I think I’m lucid, but when I get up, I know I wasn’t, as I said.
Can anyone suggest anything or try and explain what’s going on?
Lucid doesn’t exactly mean control. I’ve been lucid but not lucid enough to really think about what I’m doing. It’s more like “Oh cool, I’m lucid/dreaming,” then do something random that tends to happen in such low lucids. I do realize I’m dreaming, but I don’t always stop and think of my real goals.
There are different levels of lucidness. You can understand you’re dreaming but still get dragged along by the dream.
Also (this is at least true for me), you may think far differently when lucid dreaming than when awake, so even if you are lucid, you may end up doing things that the dream you wants to do rather than the waking you.
I agree. The majority of my LDs are the low level kind. At some point i realize this is all a dream but I rarely act on it or try to take any control. Just like ZRVera said.
On the other hand I’ve sometimes had more control over my actions in NDs than my LDs. I suppose the term would be FLD. Like a lot of my childhood flying dreams. I don’t remember if I really knew I was dreaming but it made perfect sense to me that I could fly.
Non-lucid dreams are usually our default mode, while dreaming of things that have been on our mind a lot is common. I think the actual in-the-moment lucidity is just taking a while to follow because of this. To be optimistic, don’t consider this as the SC’s rejection of lucidity, but its acceptance of your lucid goals.
