well, for almost ever. i am still on my path to become an avid lucid dreamer, and am starting to get back in my groove by writing my dreams down. but my question is, can you dream forever? is it possible to be in a dream, and life a whole nother life, if you are able to control your lucidity that much? time as we know it really wouldnt exist. because it is physical in some senses.
often times when i go to bed, and havent had the greatest day, i just wish i could just sleep forever, because it feels so good. but that woudl be death. hopefully this topic hasnt been discussed in too much depth. but i would like to hear your opinions.
This is the same reason why I’m into this.
There have been some stories about people having long dreams… some say 100 years, others have 1 year dreams, but you can only take their word for it, unfortunately.
I had a 3 month dream once, non lucid, and that’s why I believe that you could become almost eternal in you mind. Become God.
It should be possible, but then again, why would you want it?
I would like to have 3 days of dreams in one night, that would be fine, but I don’t think I would disappear into myself completely. I think you would get bored with it, and possibly insane
You had a 3months dream?
Was it like 3 months in a movie that goes only 90min, or was it like 3 months in RL? I mean, do you only know that it were 3 months or did it really feel like 3 months?
time is physical in some sense, but so are dreams. I don’t think it is possible for your brain to physically dream without any real time go by. I’m sure that will all its power concentrated on dreaming that you could have a very long dream (perhaps 2 years or more in one night) but i don’t think it could go on forever, because that would require the suff that happens in your brain to happen instanstaneously, which can’t happen as far as i’m aware.
In order for you to dream forever, you would actually need to stop time, rather than simply alter your perception of it. It cetainly may be possible to have dreams that appear to last days, but not forever.
I would have to agree with alex too except that I’m not sure that time exists. Not outside its existence as an abstract concept we use to describe massive universal change.
If you read the Holographic Universe the theory is presented that time is created from within our own consciousness. If you believe that then it certainly would be possible to stretch a dream out.
As to lasting forever… how would you know if it did? The new reality would replace the old and the old would seem to be like a dream. At least for me I think it would…
ah the topic of time. 1st of all, to quote einstein : “linear time is just a concept we accept, however; it is NOT a constant reality” which brings us back to the topic of reality…and perception. since ones perception is ones reality, if you believe you are, or could dream forever…whos to say you cant.
Yes, I had a 3 month dream.
It wasn’t exactly like reality, there were no nights or mornings, but there was every day. There didn’t happen much in the dream, it wasn’t lucid, but I remember most of it.
I believe that it is possible to dream almost endlessly, at least at the speed of light. I’m always falling asleep for about 20 minutes, and the dream lasts for a couple of hours. So it has to be possible to lengthen the dream for some hours, days or even months more.
Some would say that the passing of long amounts of time within dreams is always an illusion caused by a sort of mental dramatic editing and the subsequent inferences that we make but I don’t know if I believe that since I have had some dreams that seemed to last for hours of continuous content in only about thirty minutes of sleep.
I dont know if this would be possible nor do i really care this is along the lines of a “what if” so just pretend and plz dont nag me about it being impossible. But wut if you were trapped in a LD for sumin lik 100 years. And the 100 Years was lik almost exactly like reality time. What would you do?
So basicly ur stuck in dreamworld for 100 years and ur lucid so u can do anything u want wit all ur control. How would u blow ur time? I think it be cool to learn a bunch of stuff in that time. but would u really learn it? Ur subconscience takes in everything so it would teach it to ur conscience. you could fall asleep a moron and wake up a geinus. U could develope all kinds of skills, build memories wit dream characters, live a dream LIFE. Then you wake up and what a shock it is to see that it all happened in 1 night in real life. Would u lik wanna kill urself cus u’ve had enough living. Or would u test out ur newly learned skills and knowledge and see if u actually did learn everything.
well what about this, disregard dreams, b/c yea i would have to agree that dreaming for that long could get rather boring and repetative unless you are crazily imaginative.
when you go to sleep, and say, not dream, and wake up, it surely seems that not much time has gone by, certainly not enough to measure. i can usually NOT tell the difference with an hour nap, and a good night’s sleep. what if we were actually able to feel sleep, feel unconciousness(i guess that doesnt make sense, by definition) and actually take a 6hour break from life…
