The Makings of a Dreamer. .

As a full-time student, I’m not particularly sure if lucid dreaming is ‘right’ for me, or possible nonetheless. I’ve read numerous threads and tutorials on how to boost my likeliness of having my first experience of a LD. Most, to all, of the tutorials have suggested waking up during the night, or right before waking up for the day (during REM) to vividly remember my dreams. Would this affect my sleeping or liveliness during the day? Have you [the reader] done this during the weeknights or the nights before going to work/school?

tl;dr: Would this affect my sleeping drastically?

First of all, those are not the only methods usable out there. Even though WBTB and WILD consume from your normal sleep time, other methods such as DEILD or DILD do not. You must choose the right mixture of methods to use for yourself.

Secondly, those methods, if done properly and given that you have enough interest in LDs, won’t affect you in the morning or during the day. For example when you try WBTB, if you take just enough time you need to be awake, then you won’t have lost much. Besides, you can make use of that time by reading or other activities that awaken your brain but don’t affect your body much too. And if you manage to have an LD, it might be lightening up your whole day.

I wouldn’t suggest trying to WBTB every night in your situation, for example I (as a student myself) only use it as my “weekend card”. In weekdays, I depend highly upon DILD and DEILD, and in weekends I sometimes (when I manage to get enough sleep) add WBTB as well.

So in short, you must figure out how what affects you by yourself, actually, because every dreamer is different.

Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, just ask.
