THE UNOFFICIAL LUCID DREAM TIMER GUIDE
by Shadow of a Day
I’m not sure if there have been any topics on this yet, But I didn’t find any so I thought I’d write one myself…
A couple of weeks ago I was doing some research on WILD and I found out that there are some Lucid dreaming aids that I found to be very useful. They are often called Lucid dream timer.
The Lucid dream timers come in various lengths and versions.
Basically they sound an alarm after specifically chosen intervals. The Idea is that you just go asleep normally, so as fast as possible. The alarm will wake you up after the interval. after which you will must just go asleep again as fast as possible, making you go asleep deeper every time. after some time your mind will be expecting the alarm to sound but there won’t be one (similar to how you wake up before your alarm clock in the morning). You will wake up a little bit or spontaneously become aware in your dream.
*there are also versions with a light but I don’t have any experience with those
I’ve had quite a lot of success with them in a short period and there are incredibly easy to use, So here is my guide on how to use the LD timers:
- get some lucid dream timers or make them yourself, they aren’t that complicated
- Make sure you wake up after 4,5 till 6 hours after you went to sleep since this won’t work as when you are first going to bed
*don’t get up to late or you won’t be able to fall asleep fast enough again - Turn on the track. Make sure to turn it up pretty loud or it won’t work.
*I usually lie on my back for this, although I guess you’ll be able to do it in any position - Try to fall asleep again as fast as possible, and DON’T wait for an alarm to go off, don’t think about it at all!
- You’ll drift off pretty far or fall asleep completely and be awoken by the alarm. Don’t move at all, this will make it a lot more difficult to achieve lucidity
- I then like to focus and try to become as aware as possible for the following couple of seconds of the alarm. You don’t need to do this, but it worked for me.
- Now go asleep again and repeat step 5 if you wake up again by the alarm.
Now 3 things may happen :
- You’ll wake up by seamlessly nothing. If this happens keep your mind blank but alert, as if trying to wild. This happened to me and I suddenly noticed I was in sleep paralyses and heard the buzzing and felt vibrations, after a couple of seconds I was able to enter the dream.
2.a You’ll become spontaneously aware during a dream, you are now lucid. I recommend using stabilization techniques as soon as possible when this happens!
2.b You get a False awakening, this really happens a lot! - This sad option may be you not having either… But then don’t give up on this just yet, I recommend you turn up the volume of your music player and try again the following night, or just then if it is not to late (early) already.
I’ve found this an incredibly easy and lazy technique to have a LD or WILD since you won’t be lying awake for times, even if it doesn’t work. I’ve only tried this 5 times , after which I had:
More than 6 false awakenings, they seem to chain a lot while using this! By this I mean that you might have multiple of them in one dream.
1 spontaneously lucid dream
And 1 waking up into sleep paralyses enabling me to wild. And that was the first ever sp I’ve had.
I hope you all find this useful and I’m glad to answer any questions you’ve got
If you try this or have some experience with it already, please post your results/findings below
