Has anyone had luck with time control in dreams? I’ve heard it suggested as a possibility but never read of someone actually doing it.
How do you mean ?
as I have long dreams say a day but the dream and myself could only be asleep for about 10mins so in a sense my dreams last longer than actual time so in a sense that is time travel.
But also one of my friends told me once to find info about your soul/spirit you can imagine you are in a lift and you choose a number and if it is high=future and low or minus=past and you can find out things about yourself you didn’t know
Do you mean tricks… like freezing time, slowing down time, rewidning it or whatever?
You’re not actually playing with time - only actions. Time will alway be going forwards - it’s just that you can reverse the actions, stop actions and slow them down etc.
Or do you mean the claim some people make - that they can make a 10 min LD feel like a far longer time (say, like a week).
This isn’t chaning ‘dream time’. There is no such thing as dream time - as time in dream passes just like time in RL (and at the same speed).
However, you can make a dream last longer through a combination of ‘cutting and false memories’.
Basically, you skip the boring bit (just like in a movie) and have false memorises - which give the impression that you did it (though if you think about it for too long, the false memory may ‘break’ when you realise you hadn’t actually done that).
Whiterabbit - what exactly do you mean by “time control”? Do you mean being able to get the dream to run at the pace you want, or were you thinking more along the lines of time travel or (as Sureal pointed out) freezing/slowing down people’s actions?
I don’t know anything about the former, but as to the latter I’ve had quite a few dreams about manipulating time and/or time travel. Probably the most interesting of these was when I visited a time somewhere around the year 1900 by walking down a staircase (up was to the future and down was to the past, a bit like Samzen05’s example). Then I tried to use it to cheat on a maths test and got caught, but I made up for it by foiling a kidnap plot later.
Most often, though, I find myself ‘rewinding’ a scene that for some reason I wasn’t quite satisfied with. For example, I recently had a dream where an earthquake kept collapsing all these places I wanted to explore, and I had to travel back in time in order to explore them before they got destroyed. And another time I accidentally released some deadly monsters into the world, so I had to rewind to make sure it didn’t happen again.
I also agree with Sureal in that those ‘false memories’ can really make a dream seem much longer than it is. Often I dream of having lived in a dream world all my life before the story kicks in, and it really makes it seem more realistic, let alone twice the length it probably is in reality.
Wow,
When posts like this used to come up all replies seemed to be hypthetical in nature… Very few seasoned LDers typing back then, I grew lonely…
Again, really nice, nothing to add really.
Hey, I’m a seasoned LD’er. I just haven’t experimented with time yet .
But, I gave a clear desciption on why those two types of time control seem to work (even fi aren’t really taking control of time).
I’d say something about the hypoterical thingy, but I have no idea what it means .
Really?
The techniques you described are the exact techniques I use to make LDs seem longer. I mean, it happens subconsciously too but helping it out really has an effect.
Hypothetical basically means ‘if’ … Many posters used to sai ‘if’ I did this it would be like this etc. It was frustrating.
But I mean, You seem to have the logic of a dreaming psyche down and know what you are talking about for sure.
Sorry I didn’t clarify, did mean the ability to (for example)make 10 minutes a week, and thanks.
Define a long time.
eh… years?
a whole life story i have dreamt once. It’s more like memories or something. Hard to describe.
YEARS! Amazing!
I hope I’m that good one day…
that years one, it just happened, it is not like i controlled it.
I see. I was thinking. If you had ones that felt like they went on for years, wouldn’t that make your whole life seam hundreds of times longer?!
By the way, thanks for the links!
It doesn’t mean i had the feeling i had been in there for years. It was like the dreamstory lasted years, but you skip in it, and have memories of things that happened. Hard to describe.
As I said on my Diary, which most of you wont know of, I think that If you could make lucid dreams feel like they were years long, then your life would feel 100 times longer! It would be like cheating death! Woo!
Hmm? Oh, ok! We are flying right off topic on this board aren’t we…
