Time it takes to dream?

Researchers have said that it takes so much time of sleep before one enters the REM state and dreams, then why is it that i can fall alseep for a matter of three minutes during the day, or fall asleep at night and wake up immediately after and dream. It’s like when i was at school my mum would wake me up to get ready but i would fall back asleep, next thing i would be having a full on dream and be woken up by my mum who be all like i came and got you up ten minutes ago. Any explanations? (I’m guessing i’m not the only one who experiences this)

I would say that falling alseep in the afternoon whilst napping is because of the same reason the WBTB method works. You have more REM at that time, because you haven’t re-set your sleep cycle.
As for your dreams at night, that Erik VanEden called a Haptic Dream, dreams which seem to happen as soon as we enter sleep. I sometimes have these, I think there generally more like Hypnagogic reverie than real dreams.
And you do dream in Quiet Sleep (the opposite of REM) its just that its not as frequent as REM dreams.

Yes indeed Josh, but more commonly called this sleep stage when we fall asleep 1st time at night, is called nREM, and a part (like 1/3 or so) of all the dreams we have happens in this stage. HI is the onset of nREM dreams.

Most of the LD’s i had ( i think 7 on 10 ) took place during a nap, and immediatly after i fall asleep… I know it cause i woke up like 20 minutes after and the dream time seemed about that long…
So was it reals dreams or just HI ?? if so, how is it possible to become lucid during HI ??

Once your external senses shut down and you are asleep, officially the HI turn into dreams. Whilst fully asleep, your brain/mind is also able to more fully include extreme details into HI/dreams. So the difference between them is a thin line, and besides it doesn’t really matter anyway. So Jul, to answer your question, it were dreams you had because you were napping.

Hey Jul’, you can also definately be lucid during HI, thats how WILDs work. All you have to do is maintain your awareness as you fall asleep. You could focus on you’re breathing, or on the Imagery, untill you find that your dreaming.
