Two Questions From a new Dreamer

Hello, I’m new to LD4all- and just Lucid Dreaming in general. You can call me Stella, and I have two inquiries about dreaming.

  1. So, I read up on Lucid dreaming yesterday, and I found that the WILD technique is commonly used among Lucid Dreamers. This involves entering the ream state while still partially conscious, correct? Well, I read that you may feel a sensation of being pulled away, a presence, sounds, and maybe even the sensation of being strangled.

Well, upon reading this, I thought that the first two side-affects sounded familiar. You see, that happens to me quite often, and without my intending, and quite frankly- it’s a creepy annoyance.

Sometimes, I’ll wake up in the middle of the night, you know, normal. But then, every time I try to close my eyes everything will be utter darkness, and I’ll feel a presence- always to my right, and, it feels like something is pulling my bed away (with me in it). Worst of all, I cannot move. I mean I have the ability to, I know, but it just seems like I can’t. Sometimes, I’ll finally snap out of it, and open my eyes. It freaks to crap out of me. Most of the time that this happens I just want to go to sleep, but every time I close my eyes I feel the presence, it’s pure darkness, and the pulling sensation. So I’ll force myself to stay awake, because, yeah, it’s a frightening experience.

Oh, and, when this happens I feel like I’m vibrating.

Although I usually hear no sound, I remember last year, the sleep paralysis happened. Except I could see everything around me, and I could not move. In the background was the blood-curdling sound of a woman screaming. I was so scared that I went into my brother’s room, but it still happened, so I went to the couch, and it still happened… Finally I forced myself to stay awake, that was one of the most frightening experiances of my life. I seriously thought that it was some sort of ghost trying to to enter my body, I’m so glad I finally know what’s going on.

It’s been happening like all my life. I remember when i was like six I’d think that some monster was pulling my bed across the room. I’ve always wondered what going on, and finally I think I’ve hit a revelation.

So what i want to know: why does this happen to be when i don’t intend it to? Is this normal? Does anyone know why these sensations occur in general, and, could I use this to my advantage when trying to get a lucid dream?

  1. I’ve had one lucid dream before. It was short-lived though. I woke up in my room, and I did something really nasty that I would definitely never do in real life. So, my question is, are people usaully some-what of a different person in a lucid dream? Like maybe, their morals aren’t really there?

Oh, and, I’m just curious- where do you guys usually wake up in a Lucid dream? Do you just appear somewhere or what?

1 You’ve just experienced Sleep Paralysis, it’s a sleep trouble, it’s totally normal.
You’re paralyzed 'cause in the REM state, connections between your brain and your muscles are “disabled”, that’s why you can’t make any voluntary movement.
On the other hand, I don’t know why the vibrations are triggered.

In general, Sleep Paralysis is triggered when you brutally realize you’re dreaming. Period.

But WILDers can assure you that they experience it during the techinque.

I don’t know what SRV73 means by brutally realising you are dreaming, but sleep paralysis can happen without any connection to lucid dreaming.

The vibrations are Hypnogogic hallucinations that happen when you’re falling asleep, and WILDers use them as a good sign that they are entering a dream. Even though it may seem like you’re awake when they happen, you could be dreaming.

You can definately use it to your advantage, if you get further with wild than most people without even trying, imagine if you did!

yeah, but it only happens sometimes- thanks god. Because if you’ve experienced it before, you probably know it’s not pleasant. I don’t think I’ll be taking he WILD route while trying to achieve an LD.

… I guess i can count my blessings that there are no visual hallucinations, but the thing I feel in my bed is still quite disconcerting…

And thanks for the info- I’m not scared of things that go bump in the night anymore (just hallucinations1) But I’m quite paranoid about falling asleep…

Similar to my situation on my first night, though I wasn’t in sleep paralysis and I definetly didn’t hear horrid noises. >_<

Just a high pitched whistling, but it’s caused by the same thing.

I felt like I was sort of falling into myself, or something like that.

I still need to work on my dream recall before I focus on LDing, but I am “training” myself for both at the same time.

Good luckto you, and remember, it’s all just a dream…

Have you ever fallen asleep in that state? Though it’s scary, you may want to try it to overcome your fear. I used to think SP was torture, but now that I use it to LD, the experience isn’t half that bad. Don’t fight it, just go with the flow and it will be over much sooner.

I guess you could say that I fall asleep in SP, like one time, when I awoke in the middle of the night, and every time I closed my mind I would fall into SP.

I think so, unless you are extremly lucid. Usually I do not seem my usual self when I’m LDing, but i do have morals in them, which I have to disregard because I’m just dreaming.

I always seem to randomly become aware I’m dreaming while at home, or a familiar persons home.
