Uncontrollable Lucid Dreaming Problem

Hello, I have been having lucid dreams for the past 2 months now with the help of this site. However, the last two that I have had have involved me becoming lucid for a while but then all of a sudden I am in an uncontrollable frenzy. It is like I am an untied balloon being let go in a room and I have no control over it whatsoever. It is very scary and I sort of make out a faint object/person. I also feel a sort of electric shock sensation in my brain and this scares me even more. Please let me know if anyone has any thoughts on what may have caused this. I drink red whine 2 hours before bed and I used to be on horrible Zoloft for 4 years until about 3 months ago. Would this have anything to do with it or is it something else. Any words of wisdom will help. Thanks. -Dylan

I’d like to share a quote from my DJ that might relate to your problem…

I’ve had this uncontrollable spinning wildly around the room problem in another LD as well, and the faint glimpse of the cloaked figure. Does this seem like what happens in your dreams?

Could it be that you’re getting excited? It seems Vi’s dream was rather scary, which caused it to end. Something similar has happened to me once. It was a bit erotic, and suddenly time went like a thousand times faster and I woke up. It might just be what the mind experiences when it wakes up, IE when the dream ends.

Thanks for the response Vi. When you said “I’ve had this uncontrollable spinning wildly around the room problem in another LD as well, and the faint glimpse of the cloaked figure. Does this seem like what happens in your dreams?” You hit the nail right on the head. I do see a faint cloaked figure, what could this be? Anyone else have any input?

I have a theory-- just a theory-- that this cloaked figure is some part of our subconscious mind, saying
“Yeah you can take control of your dreams, but ultimately you are still in my control if I so choose.”

I’ve been working to find and love this part of myself, even if it is dark and scary. Ideally, all parts of your mind should work happily together!

Vi, just between you and I, is the cloaked figure He Who Fills The Cloak? I recall reading about that in your dream journal some time ago.

Now, back to the topic at hand, I don’t recall ever completely losing control during my lucid dreams. However, in most of them, my thought patterns aren’t quite as clear in real life, which I’m sure is common. Most of my actions are very spontaneous and never thought out, so for the most part, I never get much accomplished during lucid dreams.

While it’s just a theory, this has to deal with your mind, so I suppose the decision is all up to you. I think this is something that all lucid dreamers need to deal with; being lucid isn’t the same as being in control. Some people might have the misconception that it is, but lucidity is just the realization that you’re dreaming. Control of your dreams isn’t a given, unfortunately.

I think you may be right. Thanks for the post!

Yes he is! Which is why I’ve concentrated so much LD effort on finding and speaking with him.
