ive got this serious problem. For over 2 agonising years i have been trying to become lucid , not even one night i had succes. Seldomly i had a consiouss moment in my dreams but was never able to reproduce it. Ive got every single book about lucidity.
And i am looking for professional help. here in the Netherlands i cant find any, is there any help you guys know of? or maybe some alternative techniques.
Believe me guys i am dedicated and ive tried and ive tried and its fucking annoying, frustrating. ive tried anything i could find on this forum WBTB WILD you name it. ( ive been visiting this forum for more than 2 years now.)
Hope you guys can help me out.
Title changed to “Unsuccessful for 2 years, and very frustrated” from “FFS”
try recording your own voice and playing it very softly, so you can barely hear it, as you go to bed.
Saying something like:
" In my dreams, I will be aware that I am dreaming and I will remember my dreams when I wake up. " Have a 20 seconds pause or so and repeat this message, for about 20-40 times.
You can play it through a pair of headphones which you can put under your pillow so the sound just barely filters through. That’s generally how subliminal tapes work. Your conscious mind doesn’t really get it so it can’t interfere while your subconscious is getting it.
There’s lots of ways.
Basically, the most dominant problem is probably your past programming and the solution therefore will be some sort of visualization exercises/hypnosis/self hypnosis.
There’s lots of things on the internet if you have some money to spare.
The Netherlands? Did you know there is a Dutch forum also…?
Anyways, if it makes you frustrating it’s maybe a good idea to let it go for a while… some people have their first lucid dream after a lot of practice - at the moment they let go, maybe it’s the same for you too?
very surprising, if you think so much about lucid dreaming, you should have one even without practising any technique.when i first came to know about all this stuff, i had an LD within fifteen days. iknow everyone is different but 2 years is a very long time. WBTB is the easiest technique, try it sincerely. or else, just be jovial and make a few a RCs every day( about 20) and try remembering 2 to 3 dreams. you will certainly have a LD
Yeah ive tried WBTB really hard, and the advice of letting it go for a while, ive done that 2 . But i noticed something interesting: smoothing up my brainwaves and hypnotize my self if i got some money to spare?
whats that all about?
But Anyways, maybe i am doing something wrong. Let me sketch the process:
I Auto-suggest when i go to bed,and then i think to myself :‘aahhh what the hell’, and i let my self drift away.
(knowing that keeping my self conciouss , like counting or whatever will result in a no-sleeper)
And i can recall like 4 dreams average a night, and it seems like every time i am ‘experiencing’ it something inside of me doesnt want to become lucid. Its already happy with the dream the way it is!
And then i wake up, thinking… DUDE AGAIN?
One time i dreamed about a lottery commercial, i was standing on that exact spot and i was seeing it happen like i was there, and i recognised the commercial, thus knowing i was dreaming. And even at that point, every thing turned white, and i woke up. I mean what am i doing wrong? Is’nt that like a textbook-example about becoming lucid? I cant even pull that one off!
Should i apply more reality checks? or should i focus and staying inside that dream world?
Because i had that alot of times so far, some kind of partial realisation, yet no lucidity.
What do you guys think?
(and yes i know of the existence of the dutch forum, but i figured that on the english, international one i’d have a better chance to succeed )
and then some time before you get up to start your day,
use your imagination, and pretend, in your mind, while you are zoning in and out ,
either :
you fall asleep into non-dreaming,
and you keep doing this, and it is hard to concentrate :
then, stop moving your body, and don’t roll over,
or,
you drift into dreams, your mind stays awake as you drift ,
the only problem in THE state is to roll over and let your mind disappear,
it has to stay awake,
so sometime when you wake up, before you go roll over without having anythoughts at all, have thoughts, instead, and day-dream and fantasize, imagine and pretend,
Most people’s first lucid dream is similar to that. We all get excited when we first succeed, and bam! we are back to the real world. The thing is that you should congratulate yourself for the realisation. Don’t worry. When you get more lucid dreams from then on, you will learn how to stay in the dream world. Don’t forget that there are also physical limitations. If you get a lucid dream during the end of your sleep, you are more likely to wake up if you get the least bit excited than if it was somewhere towards the end of your sleep.
Somehow, it seems like you are too hard on yourself. Lucid dreaming is a skill and an art… something that must be learnt. If you play a musical instrument, you’d know that if you practise too hard, it makes your playing worse. So I think you should do it slowly and be patient with yourself. It also sounds like you are expecting too much on the first lucid dream. As long as there’s improvement from a few dreams to the next few dreams, there shouldn’t be any cause for you to feel frustrated. It takes practice after all.
Oh, and while you are at it, don’t forget to appreciate your NDs too! Some of my best dreams were NDs.
Also, as suggested by those who posted above, it might be wise to take a break first. (maybe a month?) relax…
I really advice using the more advanced techniques rather than trying DILD ing because in the more advanced techniques the lucidity levels are higher significantly.
Remember that it is very hard to try for a WILD and you wont be so succesful in your first MILD s, but dont give-up!
Be more aware of the Dream World and you too will become a Lucid Walker soon!
Hey there, I thought I would post here to help you out.
You are stressing far too much over this and making it a hundred times more complicated than it is.
I tried all kinds of different LD induction methods, but I believe the easiest is the DILD method, it is also the only one I’ve ever succeeded at.
What I want you to do is constantly throughout the day perform reality checks. Every time you remember to do so, even if you at 100% sure that you are awake and just did a reality check, do one anyway. I recommend blowing through a plugged nose. You will know if you are dreaming when you try this, it is as if you weren’t plugging your nose at all.
It really is just that simple. Perform your RCs until you are nauseous, at least once every 5 minutes and when they become habit, then you will find yourself doing them out of habit in your dreams as well, except there you will fail them.
Do you keep a dream journal at all? If not, then I would advice you to do so! Keeping a dream journal will help you find you dream signs which will be key to you gaining lucidity. Also, a dream journal will help you with your dream recall which is an invaluable tool.
If you already keep a dream journal, do you record you dreams in the middle of the night when you wake-up? If not, then I suggest you do so. Yes, it might be a pain in the ass, and I realise it will be the last thing you want to do when you’re tired and want to drift back off to sleep, but believe me, it’s worth it I now keep a dream journal religiously and journal even in the middle of the night when I’ve been awoken from a dream. You’ll be surprised when you wake-up in the morning and read what you’ve put Keep note of any recurring themes, places, people, or just general weirdness and find those dream signs. As I said, these will be your key to lucidity.
Also, make sure you’re doing RC’s every hour, on the hour. It may sound a bit much but believe me, it isn’t, you can never do too many RC’s! Find a RC that works for you and don’t keep changing it. You need to get used to doing just 1 or 2 RC’s and sticking with them and repeating them constantly. You may not see the benefits for 2 weeks, a month maybe, but if you stick with it and do them frequently enough you will soon start to incorporate them into your dreams and hey presto, you’re lucid
So yeah, that’s my advice. Dream journal and RC’s. Obviously, on top of these two things pick a method such as DILD, WBTB, WILD, etc. and work one of these as well.
It is a lot of hard work but if you’re determined enough to lucid dream it shouldn’t be a problem.
Good Luck!
Oh yes, you said you’ve read a lot of books on lucid dreaming. Have you read, Lucid Dreams in 30 Days: The Creative Sleep Program by Keith Harary and Pamela Weintraub? If not, I suggest you do as it’s an invaluable tool when it comes down to lucid dreaming. I can’t recommend it highly enough! Work the program religiously and you’ll get results
Maybe you’re expecting too much. Maybe you’re so focused on getting results that it won’t work. Sometimes when I am expecting somehting to happen, I’m so much focused on wanting it to happen what it won’t. So take a break and “let it flow”.
Being positive about it will make a difference, too. It’s not the same going to sleep thinking “today I might have a lucid dream” than thinking “hey, today I’ll have a lucid dream”.
i woke from a dream this morning more vivid than most
i felt clearly i witnessed the entire dream
yet when i went back to sleep entire fragments of it so much longer than where i was sure the beginning was, emerged
i can understand why lucidity is a great paradox to many, the only sure way to understand total recall is to WILD consciously out of body,
perhaps it is so that you are dreaming in a state of such depth that it is simply not recalled in any way by the conscious mind ?
on youtube “lucidology 101” videos have wonderful consultation on how to do many early morning WILDs, have any of you seen these, that wish for the experience?
Wow thanks guys first of all for all the response!
Well, i think i will give it a rest for a while like you guys said, i mean it still has to be fun in the end.
But in the mean time i’ll occupy myself with those youtube vids, for i haven’t seen those yet. And i think will concentrate more on my RC’s. Havent been great with them so i will increase my effort, they’re kinda my last resort.
But you guys dont believe in those sleeping masks? which give you signals when you have reached the REM-state?
By the way, i saw someone mentioned tea? i’m gonna try that aswell
