I tried it the other night and I got a couple of spells where I could hear a kind of roaring or whooshing in my ears and like soaring stars kind of things in my eyes but then I kept losing it and ‘waking up’. That is, I still kind of kept concentrating on counting my breaths but gradually the whooshing/slight vibrations just kind of drifted away without developing as it were.
Was I doing it right (or was it just in my head/imagination) and what am I meant to do after the whooshing? To advance it etc? Am I meant to become more involved or back off or just ignore it?
You did do it correctly, atleast that’s what I can tell from your text- But not many succeed with WILD the first time they are going to bed. Try WILD:ing when waking up in the middle of the night.

Yep, you were much more aware of falling asleep then you have probably ever been. The trick is to keep your body falling asleep while remaining aware. This is pretty hard when you are first falling asleep at night, due to the natural sleep cycle (check it out here).
As you can see, it takes awhile till REM occurs, that is why the WBTB method MovieMe suggested is infinitely better then trying to have a WILD when you are first going to sleep at night.
