I am wondering if there is something in RL that reminds you to do a reality check or do you do them spontaneously? i have been doing them just spontaneously but it hasnt been working too well.
thank you

for me i normally tie a string around my finger and when i notice said string i do a rc and then i also do them spontaneously
so far nothing for me but i’ve only been going at it for 2 days now both with really bad dream recall ;.;
I do what KauaiDreamer suggested in another thread and do a RC whenever I walk through a doorway. Also, whenever something catches you off guard, scares you, confuses you, seems odd in some way, or reminds you of dreaming, RCs, or lucidity are the essential times to do a RC. Of course, spontaneously checking your reality is also a good idea because it keeps you aware and helps you to be more scrutinizing when it comes to your environment.
I’m still testing a few different ways to remember RCs too. One thing I’ve learned is not to rely half on spontaneous remembering and half on cues, because you become reliant on the cues and stop remembering on your own. If that makes sense.
Right now I RC every time something doesn’t seem quite right (in dreams, that’s often what pre-lucidity feels like for me) and whenever I walk through a door or into someplace new. But I’m curious to see other people’s ideas.
try tying your RCs in with your dreamsigns. for example, i often drive other people’s cars in my dreams, so i do an RC every time i’m in a car…
I do an RC anytime seems odd or out of place. However, most of the times in dreams this is always the case and I always do an RC and it fails. It only seeems to help in that pre-lucid stage when youre not completely sure, but when its all hazy and distant, RCs dont help me much.
Between 2 and 20 times an hour, there’s no such thing as too much. Basically, whenever I think of them or whenever something catches my attention. Doing them as often as possible seems to have helped move them over into my dreams. I’ve also been making a point to ask the question “am I awake or am I dreaming” before each one.
I am sort of spontaneous with the RC’s. I just do it every time I remember to do it, which sometimes has me doing an RC at about every 10 minutes, which can add up to about 100 a day.
I also have Lucille and sometimes set it to go off every 3 minutes on my computer, so If I am on the computer for 2 hours then I will have done 40 RC’s.
It is cool to see this post here as it was just today that I told myself that I need to get organized with RC’s and will do it every time I walk through a doorway.
Here is a cool video on doorway RC’s to help hammer this habit into your brain.
I do reality checks whenever I’m experiencing something profound; like watching a beautiful sunset, or taking a moonlit walk.
I also do them upon waking up, and the occasional odd time.
I don’t do them regularly like I should.
Personally, I never experienced a significant correlation between Reality Checks and the frequency of Lucid Dreaming.
thanks for the replies i think i am gonna start the door one and hopefully it will help to give me a lucid dream.
every time something seems odd or wrong … when I think “oh, that was weird.” I just have to do a RC
and I also do one every time I go to the bathroom or see a sink/toilet/tiles/tub/etc …well, I almost never forget this when I’m at home, it’s worse when I’m somewhere else, especially at shool (I guess I’m too stressed or distracted or something lol)… but I’m getting better
Good Luck! I just realized I walked through 18 doorways today and didn’t check once!
That’s it, right now, I am going to walk through 3 doorways in my house back and forth until I do at least 18 RC’s to make up for this slacking! I’ll force myself to watch that creepy video again to further nail this important habit into my brain!
haha ya thats the same with me! i keep forgetting to reality check when i walk through doors i think it will take some getting used to.
I usually do RC’s when I spontaneously remember it. quickly does one
Of course, also when something odd happens. Just a while ago, I did one because my PC showed some kind of error (which I don’t remember anymore) or when I get up in the morning (well at least I try) and most of the time when I check the time on my clock, I quickle double check to make sure it doesn’t change - which is particularly funny when it goes from like 11:59 to 12:00 while I look away: “HOLY COW, I should make more RCs!”
I also use the note function of Windows 7 (the one that allows you to place virtual post-it sheets on your desk. I have a note there that simply says “RC!” Everytime I close firefox I notice it and do one.
lol thats genious i have been trying to do the dorway one as well but i forget every time i go threw a door way
*geekboy goes to watch video…
crap youtube is blocked at school ;.;
I dont RC so often. Just do anything crazy! Like undress you , run nude! or anything, say something weird or mean to a dude! I can do this because i know i wont ever do them in REAL. It may be scary at first, but promes me, when you do stuff you WONT NEVER EVER DO WHILE YOUR AWAKE, and you do them anyway, you are sleeping. Cus I know when i am awake for real, but somethimes it can be though to be absolutly sure that im dreaming than im doing something crazy and challange my self.
Well this works for me!
