Why do we miss huge dreamsigns?

As I read frequently the “What huge dreamsign have you missed lately?” topic, I got the feeling that many huge dreamsigns were just symbolizing real life situations.

(By the way, most of them are not really dreamsigns, cause theorical dreamsigns are recurring events which make you close to lucidity. As for me, it’s UFO’s. Whenever I see a UFO in dreams, I’m always wondering if it’s real. But it’s another story. ).

Back to the topic. I said many dreamsigns were symbolizing real life situations. Let’s take an example. For instance, supposing that somebody dreams their father transforms into a big green godzilla and he destroys the city. Of course it’s a huge dreamsign. But what does it means? It means: my father is a monster. You can think this during RL, because you felt that your father was not very kind yesterday, he behaved in an unsual way and he did something you didn’t like at all. The dream just changes this into images.

In such conditions, it seems to me quite normal that we don’t notice these dreamsigns. Because they are not really weird indeed and they correspond to things we can think IRL.

I’m wondering if you have the same feeling than me. Moreover, do you think it’s possible to make this observation useful in order to better react to dreamsigns?

Yeah, my dreams are always very clever. Sometimes they even make fun of me in an ironical way, tricking me. They are showing me something I’m sure. Dreams are so deep and complex, it’s unbelievable. At least for me.

Personally I believe that at least some of why we often miss obvious dreamsigns is that we are not “trained” to recognize them. By this I mean that from our years of past dreams we are in the habit of thinking something like “Hmm, there must be some explanation why there is a green man, o because he is in a garden.”

The point I am trying to make is that we frequently rationalize instead of recognizing the obvious reason. because it is a dream.

Basilus, Your thoughts make sense to me. Because we sort of know why we are dreaming what we are it makes it even easier to incorrectly rationalize.

I think it also has to do with the fact that when you are in the dream, it is like you are in the middle of something. Like when you are digging a large hole in the ground. After an hour or two of digging, you are no longer thinking about why you are doing it or anything like that, you are just thinking about the next shovel full of dirt. Everything else has just faded into the background. That is how I am in an ND. The first thing that I notice when I get lucid is I ask myself “what am I doing here?” (Then I wake up  ) but befor I get lucid, I don’t even think about it. Everything is just the way it has to be for me to do what I am doing. That my dad is pulling the house behind a truck up in the air, is just part of the way it has to be for us to get where we are going. Not a dreamsign.
As to what it means as in your example, my SC must be very nasty, because I have not been able to see why the strange things that happen in my dreams happen. I can’t make any connections to what is going on in my life. There is also the problem that I can find explanations of what flying in a dream means, but a house flying in a dream with you in it?
don

don, your dream gives me the strong feeling it can be easily explained. The ideas behind are: my home is moving, my father makes the home move, I’m going with my father (or where he wants to). But in some cases, interpretation is not easy cause it’s not related with an actual event, but memories, desires, etc.

I agree with you when you say we’re are like stuck in our dreams. It’s just like when we walk while thinking about random things and don’t notice the landscape or what happens around us. But in a dream, our thoughts are also the landscape thus it’s even harder to realize what we are doing.

Lucidity_Master, what you point out is interesting. IMO it concerns more the prelucid states, thus we are no more entirely stuck to the dream, but it’s funny to see how we can rationalize in them and reach false yet fully satisfactory conclusions.

Dreamsigns often do contain symbolism, but it isn’t always easy to tell what messages you’re being sent. The most common messages I pull from my dreams is that I’m afraid of being socially neglected, I desire things I want for the wrong reason, and that I cannot force my mind to believe or think something that it doesn’t.

I think the first message is very true, because I love having lots of friends and going out to have a good time.

The second message concerns me a bit; what do I really want out of life, and why do I want it? Obviously social acceptance is one, but do I want it for people I can truly depend on, or just for popularity? This is something I"ll definently have to explore.

The third one is the most confusing, and possibly the most frightening. What exactly am I trying to force my brain to think? I’ve been given the choice of two religions (Christianity and Judaism), and I have already chosen one, for personal reason… have I chosen the wrong one?

Dreams do require a bit of thinking upon, but they’re wonderful things, and I consider them miracles.
